for heartworms at a cost of $10,792.50. FoMCAS also provides resources to enrich the lives of shelter animals. Their generosity provides Kuranda Beds, turf for the play yards, fencing and other supplies that make life more tolerable for shelter animals. Their Board of Directors run the show and their varied occupational backgrounds help them work effec- tively, combining skills in Business, Marketing, Graphic Design and Accounting Funding is critical and more than 96 percent of the money


they raise goes to the animals, allowing for some printing and administrative fees. Like other charities, they depend on fundraising events, like Motorwork’s Yappy Hour, a fun Sunday event sponsored by Animal Network, Inc., Jewelry to the Rescue and Adopt-A-Palooza. The FoMCAS website and Facebook page are great places to check out upcoming events, find out about volunteer opportunities, and how to make donations. There is no doubt that the homeless pets at MCAS need friends like FoMCAS, and no doubt that FoMCAS will continue to do whatever they can to heal hearts, mend broken bones and add happiness to the lives of shelter pets. They do need help to do so however, especially for volun-


teers, which can be as simple as providing transportation to get the animals to and from their medical appointments. They need help at their fundraising events and are always open to new ideas on how to raise the much needed funds. Whether you decide to volunteer or want to make a


donation that directly impacts a homeless pet’s life, Friends of Manatee County Animal Services is worthy of your consider- ation. As a long time animal advocate in Manatee County, I can personally attest to the amazing stories of hope, recovery and second chances that this amazing organization provides.
