What does your company do? ioSTUDIOS is a software development house. We build bespoke, web-based software for growing businesses.
How did it all start? The business was started 11 years ago by our managing director when he left his job designing software for a FTSE 100 pub company
What’s your greatest achievement so far? Building software which has a transformational effect on our clients’ businesses.
What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken – and did it work out? Several years ago we decided to build our own software as a service product – SalesRadar, a prospecting and lead tracking application for small businesses. It has proved popular with SMEs and continues to build its user base.
What keeps you awake at night? Ways to solve interesting challenges through the use of innovative technology in our client’s businesses.
If you could turn the clock back, what would you do differently? Make a couple of key recruits earlier and focus on creating effective processes which would have allowed us to expand easier.
What has surprised you most in your job? The variety of the different types of businesses we work with. We’ve developed applications in some
interesting and obscure, niche businesses, through to large mainstream organisation.
What advice would you give to someone starting out? Do something you have a passion about and build a team around you of people who share that passion.
Which business do you most admire? Many of our clients run really solid, stable niche businesses which are incredible at what they do. They create an environment that allows their people to thrive but their business to be secure. They are not household names but are inspiring.
What exciting projects is your business working on? We’re currently working with two very exciting start-ups in stealth mode which both have the potential to be massively disruptive in their marketplace.
What made you join Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and how are you making use of your membership? We decided to join GBCC to engage with likeminded and progressive businesses in the area. The support we’ve received from the team at GBCC has been invaluable. We’ve contributed to policy
campaigns and, through the Chamber, worked with the cabinet office to help showcase technology and innovation in the West Midlands.
