Masterplan: Sutton Coldfield town centre is set to be reimagined

Round-up

Masterplan in hands of urban design experts

A specialist team of urban design and planning experts have been appointed to begin work on a £150,000 masterplan for Sutton Coldfield town centre. The Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Centre

Regeneration Partnership (TCRP) has commissioned the Tibbalds CampbellReith joint venture to complete phase one of the masterplan. The TCRP – which includes representatives of

Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council, Birmingham City Council, Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBSLEP), Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC), FOLIO Sutton Coldfield, Sutton Coldfield Business Improvement District and Transport for West Midlands – will work closely with the team to deliver the new vision for a reimagined town centre.

The work will involve detailed engagement

with town centre land owners and shop owners followed by a full public consultation in early 2020.

Delivery of Phase One of the masterplan is

expected at the end of April 2020. Olive O’Sullivan, the Town Council’s chief

executive, said: “This masterplan will be created with the input of residents and businesses to ensure we deliver a town centre we can all be really proud of. “What is clear is that town centres have to

change and it’s vital that ours is at the vanguard of these changes. Royal Sutton Coldfield is a great place to live and work. Let’s ensure we have a town centre that reflects this.” Funding for the masterplan has been provided

by the town council, GBSLEP and Sutton Coldfield BID.

Enoch Evans LLP has promoted Reiss Matthews (pictured) from its wills, tax, and probate team to partner. Reiss, who specialises in matters such as inheritance tax, lasting power of attorneys and administration of estates, was instrumental in establishing the law firm’s Sutton Coldfield office which opened in 2017. He said: “I am very proud to have been

promoted to partner at Enoch Evans LLP and feel this reflects the ongoing success and growth of the firm.”

John Taylor Hospice is inviting families and friends to remember loved ones by making a Light up a Life dedication. People can dedicate a light which will shine

on the hospice’s Tree of Lights and include a personalised message in a remembrance book. A Light up a Life celebration event is taking

place at Harvest Fields Centre in Sutton Coldfield on Friday 6 December (6.30pm).

The Curry Design Studio has continued its expansion by welcoming Elle Cox as digital marketing apprentice. Elle has studied arts and photography

extensively, as well as having extensive knowledge of new technologies. Director Kate Curry said: “Elle’s energy and

enthusiasm for the role and appetite for all things marketing is truly infectious, and she will be a huge asset to the team.”

Milestone celebrated with drop-in law clinic

A Sutton Coldfield legal firm opened a new chapter in its 25-year history by holding a drop- in advice clinic on family law in the town’s library. Bell Lax Solicitors, which celebrates a quarter

of a century in business next year, organised the clinic with FOLIO, the community-led registered charity which has revitalised the town centre library after it was saved from closure three years ago. Richard Kerry, Bell Lax’s legal director, said the idea behind the advice clinic – called Family Law: The Facts - was to offer free advice in an informal setting. He said: “People often have questions about

family law which they would like simple, direct advice on. However, visiting a solicitor’s offices

Expert advice: Bell Lax Legal director Richard Kerry with FOLIO chairman Zoe Toft

can sometimes seem quite daunting, so by basing ourselves in the library for the day we were able to have discreet, one-to-one chats about their concerns. “We are lucky in Sutton Coldfield to have a

thriving library that not only shares information in the traditional way, it also has an informative programme of events. “This seemed like the perfect way to reach out

and help local people engage with family law, getting the answers they needed and dispelling a few of the myths too.” Since becoming involved with the running of

the library, FOLIO have reinvigorated the facility, introducing a popular café and organising a varied programme of events and talks.
