Business News Marketing firm in double success

A Birmingham marketing and web design firm has scooped double recognition with national and regional awards. Jamil Shabir, head of Bootcamp

Media, won the Chief Executive’s award at the Downtown in Business Birmingham awards. Then the company was named SME Employer of the Year in the 2019 Asian Apprenticeship Awards in Birmingham. Jamil was presented with the

Downtown Business award at the third annual event in front of 300 people at Edgbaston cricket ground.

‘These awards recognise the considerable hard work that goes into running modern enterprises’

The awards were introduced in

2017 to recognise the best the Birmingham business community has to offer in a variety of sectors.. The event highlights employees

of the year, the best newcomers, networking champions and those who have had the biggest community impact. Jamil said: “I was totally not

expecting to win the Chief Executive’s Award, but I’m very, very grateful. You cannot imagine what it means to have won something like this. It’s not just for me, though – it’s for the entire

Award (from left): Frank McKenna (Downtown in Business), Ruby Kaur and Jamil Shabir (both Bootcamp Media)

Bootcamp Media team. And it’s particularly important given Downtown in Business’s commitment to working with organisations up and down the country. “They know how to support local

businesses, and these awards recognise the considerable hard work that goes into running modern enterprises.” Bootcamp Media, based in the

Jewellery Quarter, provides marketing services and web design to businesses throughout the West Midlands. Bootcamp Media opened its

doors to businesses in Birmingham and the West Midlands in 2012 and has since provided digital marketing services to hundreds of firms. With a combined experience of over 30 years, Bootcamp Media has

grown its revenue by over 400 per cent since it was established. It has offices in Cheltenham and Exeter and will soon to launch in London. Jamil said: “We understand the

value of going beyond the nuts and bolts of business. “This has resulted in the team

investing time in a considerable amount of charitable work that has raised thousands for organisations who need it the most.”

A modern makeover for vending machines

A start-up business is bringing vending machines into the 21st Century. Thrillscape UK, based in Royal Tunbridge Wells and founded by Shola

Lawrence, imports, sells and leases Vend Box machines in the UK. Vend Box machines are interactive, touch-screen vending machines that

deliver a variety of food and drink items – not just chocolate and crisps. Customers can view product ingredients and information before

purchasing, and then pay by cash, contactless card and mobile. Shola said: “The Vend Box gives operators the opportunity to select

the food and drink items on sale and, better, to change the selection according to sales volumes or local preferences. “So, if a new product comes along, you can program the machine to

include it alongside other best-sellers. In addition, the machine can send you an alert via an online portal to advise you of items going out of stock, enabling you to replenish. “This also helps with stock control, so you can optimise re-ordering of

popular items and perhaps replacing those that don’t sell so well.” Vend Box machines are available either for outright purchase or on a

leasing agreement. They have been installed in the Bullring and Grand Central in Birmingham and at intu Lakeside in Essex. Shola is also offering exclusive introductory sales or leasing deals for members of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce.
