Nigel appointed as chartered arbitrator
Nigel Puddicombe of law firm VWV – which has an office in Birmingham – has become one of only 200 chartered arbitrators currently in practice throughout the world. The Chartered Institute of
Arbitrators is one of the world's leading professional bodies for dispute management, with a global network of more than 16,000 members. It aims to promote a harmonious
society through the peaceful avoidance, management, and resolution of conflict. Being a chartered arbitrator places
Mr Puddicombe at the pinnacle of the arbitration movement, having conducted a substantial volume of arbitrations and passing a thorough peer interview. Mr Puddicombe qualified as a
solicitor in 1979 and joined VWV in 2001. His career in arbitration began in 2015. Since then, he has conducted arbitrations across a broad spectrum of personal, business, partnership and professional disputes. Mr Puddicombe also shares his wealth of knowledge and

experience within VWV’s dispute resolution team, sowing the seeds for future arbitrators to emerge in the firm’s future. He said: “It is an honour to be
recognised as a champion of arbitration by CIArb with this qualification. “Not all commercial disputes need
to be resolved through costly litigation – the appointment of an arbitrator can often be the best step for ensuring conflicts are resolved confidentially, swiftly and cost- effectively to the benefit of all sides.”
Gateley Legal advises LDC on investment
The corporate teams in the Birmingham and Nottingham offices of Gateley Legal have advised LDC, the private equity arm of Lloyds Banking Group, on its investment in Instinctif Partners. The complex deal involved multiple countries and a reorganisation

was for a time the owner of Birmingham’s NEC Group, which it sold last year for a massive profit. Instinctif Partners are an
international business communications consultancy which provides strategic advice to the boards and executive teams of leading companies worldwide. LDC says its funding input will
allow Instinctif to continue to expand across international markets. This year, the consultancy has announced a number of client wins, including Google, software business SAP, TalkTalk, Zoopla and recruitment firm Randstad. Gateley Birmingham corporate partners Andrew Cowan and Gareth

which we were thrilled to complete for LDC. The sizeable team at Gateley Legal worked hard over several months to deliver a deal which introduced new legal challenges at almost every turn.” LDC investment director Lawrence Dean said: “Gateley Legal rose to
the challenge in managing through this complex transaction with attention to detail and discipline, working together with LDC’s legal team.”
