Transatlantic Chamber Patrons

Two new vice-presidents appointed By Dan Harrison

Greater Birmingham Transatlantic Chamber of Commerce has appointed two new vice- presidents. James Tait, partner at law firm Browne

Jacobson, and Andy Newnham, deputy director of business engagement, will serve alongside the organisation’s president Professor Julian Beer. James, a long-standing member of the

Transatlantic Chamber’s committee (previously the British American Business Council Midlands Chapter), is an employment law expert and leads Brown Jacobson’s Birmingham employment team. He is also member of the board of trustees

of Performances Birmingham Limited, which manages the Town Hall and Symphony Hall.

‘The Transatlantic Chamber has helped connect our clients with relevant advisors and business people’

“James said: “Browne Jacobson has a natural

synergy with the Transatlantic Chamber in that we support national and international clients with their international aspirations and business plans and we have hosted and supported a number of events and formed part of the significant delegation to Chicago. “The Transatlantic Chamber has helped

connect our clients with relevant advisors and business people with invaluable guidance and support.

“We look forward to continuing to work closely

with the Chamber, the International department and with Professor Julian Beer as president.” Andy has been a Transatlantic Chamber

committee member for the past two years. He has held a number of roles in higher education, at the University of Birmingham, University of Warwick and University of Nottingham. Andy said: “I’ve really enjoyed being part of

the Transatlantic Chamber for the past two years through a period of growth and regeneration as we’ve rebranded, increased membership, and delivered exceptional events. Our greatest strength is the support and

insight we provide to members through our own work and that of colleagues across the UK, US and Canada engaged in transatlantic trade. “The University of Birmingham has a significant presence in North America through our research and teaching activities, as well as extensive business and alumni networks. “As one of our region’s anchor institutions we are keen to support the development of engagement across the Atlantic. “I am grateful for the support of my fellow board members and excited to continue to add value as vice-president of the Transatlantic Chamber.”

Improved business class offering takes off

United Airlines has upped its business class offering from the UK – with every flight between London Heathrow and Chicago being operated with its newly reconfigured Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. The extended cabin features 46 United Polaris

business seats and 22 United Premium Plus seats. United’s three daily nonstop flights from

Heathrow to Chicago are now on sale, in addition to five daily New York/Newark flights, which also feature the new seats. “On our New York/Newark and now Chicago

O’Hare services, we are offering our Polaris business class seating as well as a new class of service with our new Premium Plus product,” said United’s managing director sales UK and Ireland, Bob Schumacher. “We are committed to making United the

airline that customers choose to fly. As we are seeing a significant increase in customer demand for premium seats, we are excited to be able to expand the number of seats on all of our flights between London Heathrow and our hometown Chicago hub.” The reconfigured Boeing 767-300ER aircraft

features 16 additional United Polaris business class seats – a more than 50 per cent increase in all-aisle-access seating – bringing the total premium cabin seat count to 46. The aircraft also features 22 United Premium

Plus seats (becoming the first United 767-300ER to offer this seat type), 47 Economy Plus seats and 52 Economy seats. The newly launched United Premium Plus

seats are located closer to the front of the aircraft, directly behind Polaris. Customers travelling in United Premium Plus

receive Premier Access check-in, complimentary checked bags, larger and more spacious seats, an upgraded dining experience, an amenity kit, Saks Fifth Avenue bedding and more.
