GPs are asking their patients to book a place in forthcoming flu clinics as soon as they are advertised. Alternatively, you can visit your nearest participating pharmacy. GP surgeries are also testing atrial fibrillation in patients over the age of 65. Although flu vaccinations are available from other outlets it is only GP surgeries who are offering the additional check for abnormal heart rates at the same time. In addition to the atrial fibrillation and flu vaccination applicable patients are able to receive Pneumococcal vaccines protecting patients against the bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae. The vaccine can prevent some cases of pneumonia, meningitis, and sepsis. A pneumococcal infection can affect anyone. However, some people are at higher risk of serious illness and can be given the pneumococcal vaccination on the NHS.

If you are not amongst the eligible categories to receive a flu vaccination free of charge on the NHS, please consider visiting a local pharmacy for the vaccine in order to protect yourself and your family this winter.

THE PRESTON ROOMS – THE VILLAGE HALL The Preston Rooms has been donated a Defibrillator and on 10th September we organised a training session for this life saving equipment. Attendance was very poor at this event, which was disappointing as we are very lucky to have this expensive equipment in such a small village.

It might be October but we still have some events to offer you all before the end of the year.

We are holding a new event on Saturday October 5th , a beer and wine festival. This event is

a social occasion to encourage those of you who haven’t yet come along to the Preston Rooms, to step inside and have a drink and a chat. There will be homemade beverages, nibbles and games. Any drink can be brought along – we don’t care what you bring, as long as you come and join us, 7pm onwards.

For those of you who haven’t seen the posters, the events for the rest of the year combined with the PCC are:

October 18th November 9th December 7th December 14th

Harvest Quiz and Chips 7pm Autumn Fair 10am – 12 noon Makers Market 10am – 4pm Christmas Bingo 7pm

All of the above held at the Preston Rooms. Inputs by 15th Please Sue Watts, Secretary 25
