Good Citizen Award
Members of Wroxham Parish Council gathered outside St Mary’s Church recently to make a special award to a remarkable man. Barry Gorbould was honoured with a special Good Citizen award for his tireless unpaid work over many years for the village. Barry locks and unlocks the church every day, rain or shine, cleans street signs and does a variety of jobs around the village to keep it spick and span. He is also a fount of local knowledge having lived in the village his whole life. The award of a special glass trophy was designed and made by Wroxham’s own master stonemason and sculptor Nick Hindle. Barry, who lives in Skinners Lane, was presented with the award by Barry Fiske, Chairman of Wroxham Parish Council. Barry Commented: “Barry Gorbould is a pillar of our community. His unselfish dedication to the village has made him a popular and much loved local character. We are all very grateful for all the work he has done over the years.”
Facebook
Nearly three years ago the Parish Council launched our own Facebook page - Our Wroxham - to keep in touch with villagers on a day to day basis. It became very popular but that popularity attracted a great many people who do not live in our village and sadly, some who were abusive or disruptive. The Parish Council has therefore reluctantly decided to close that page. However from the ashes rises the phoenix of a new Facebook Group - Wroxham Parish Council News. As a “group” we can pre-screen would-be applicants and expel anyone providing false information or not sticking to the clearly posted group rules. So if you would like to be kept up to date with village news please search for Wroxham Parish Council News on Facebook and answer three simple questions. We now already have 100 members. Of course you can also follow our news on our web site :
www.wroxhamparishcouncil.org, through the pages of The Bridge and on the notice boards throughout the village.

The Parish Council is continuing to chase the relevant local authorities on outstanding issues. New street name signs are promised imminently and may be installed by the time you read this report. Work on the third phase of footpath refurbishment is still a way off. Norfolk County Council Highways Department tells us that remaining areas on the central ring have not yet been completed as they ran out of money on the last phase due to the large amount of drainage works that needed to be completed. They will submit those remaining areas for funding in the 2020/21 financial year. The eastern spur will not be included as the footpath is considered to be of sufficient quality.
