Budget Preparations Hoveton Parish Council will soon be drawing up its draft budget for the 2020/21 financial year and planning how funds will be spent. As part of this process, your Parish Council welcomes and encourages feedback from local residents on items to be included in the budget and on the setting of the parish precept. So if you have identified a particular need for funding within the parish, or if there is a specific project you would like to see Hoveton Parish Council pursue in the near future, please do get in touch and let us know.

In particular, your Parish Council welcomes local residents’ views on any highway improvements the Parish Council may be able to part-fund via Norfolk County Council’s Parish Partnership Scheme. This scheme offers 50/50 funding up to a maximum of £25,000 per bid (the parish council must ‘match fund’ the amount applied for) for projects such as small lengths of formal footway; trods; improved crossing facilities; improvements to Public Rights of Way; flashing signs to tackle speeding; and part-time 20mph signs with flashing warning lights outside schools.

Ideas already put forward to your Parish Council by local residents include new bus shelters, dropped kerbs, and ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras, while Hoveton Parish Council is considering whether it may be possible to fund speed humps or other traffic calming measures via the Parish Partnership Scheme following concerns raised by local residents about persistent speeding on Church Road. Which projects would you support? What would you like to see in your village? Please send your feedback to Lisa, the Parish Clerk (07572 349 600 or clerk@hoveton-pc.org.uk).

Broads Centre Improvements As regular readers of The Bridge will likely know, The Broads Centre (Hoveton’s ‘shopping precinct’) will soon have a whole new look, with work due to begin in the coming months on new and improved hard and soft landscaping – including new surfaces, seating, and planters. Hoveton’s Granary Staithe, which provides a key entrance to The Broads Centre, will be receiving an exciting makeover too as part of this work, including the replacement of gravel areas with a more durable resin surface and the introduction of new street furniture, though the Staithe will retain its own unique identity and look.

Work on these improvements was scheduled to begin on 16th September, but this start date

has since been delayed due to problems with the supply of materials. At the time of writing, no new date has been confirmed for this work to begin, but it is hoped the work will soon be underway and, all being well, that it will possibly be completed in time for Christmas. There may be a small amount of disruption while the work takes place, with access to Granary Staithe likely to be restricted at times, but your Parish Council is in close contact with the developer responsible for these works and will do its best to ensure local residents and business owners are kept updated.
