WROXHAM FOOTBALL CLUB The 1st team lost their first league game of the season at home to Swaffham and with it a golden opportunity to move up to 3rd place in the table. This came three days after an excellent win at Woodbridge which had raised a few eyebrows notably in the East Anglian Daily Times who included an interesting comparison between ex-Canary Grant Holt who is now playing for us and Carlos Edwards, the former Ipswich Town player now playing for The Woodpeckers. Holt scored the winning goal at Woodbridge and also converted a penalty against Swaffham but it was not enough to extend our unbeaten run as The Pedlars scored a late winner. Despite losing to Stamford in The FA Cup we did make progress in The FA Vase with a 3- 2 win at Peterborough & District League side Netherton which put us in the 1st Round Proper draw. This round is due to be played on 12th Oct but as yet, we don’t know who our opponents are or whether it will be a home or away tie. It will however affect our Norfolk Senior Cup tie at Home to Caister, which was scheduled for the 12th but will now change as it clashes with the Vase date. So watch out for revised fixture dates. Next months scheduled league fixtures include a home game on Tues 1st Oct against Gorleston 7-45 and also on Sat 19th against Newmarket 3-00pm. The Reserves have made a bright start to the season and are currently in 6th place. Their fixtures will also be affected by the changes to 1st team games. The u18’s were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup in extra time at Gorleston despite dominating most of the play. They have won their opening two league games and sit in 2nd place at this early stage of the season. The new women’s team were beaten by Harlow but otherwise has got off to a good start. They won their FA Women’s cup tie against Kettering Ladies and now meet Wymondham in the next round. All the junior teams have now started at their various venues and a Wildcats Centre for girls ages 5-11 has started every Saturday 10-11 at Stracey Park, Rackheath. Home midweek fixtures may be affected later in October as work on our new LED lights are scheduled to start on 21st Oct. This should also coincide with the erection of a new mobile phone mast for EE as a swap-out for our middle floodlight column nearest the railway line. Our annual Firework Display takes place on Sunday Nov 3rd. Full details are shown elsewhere in this month’s Bridge magazine. As usual all club details are available on our website which has a new address www.wroxhamfc.club or via Twitter @the_yachtsmen . Clubhouse bookings for events and parties can be made by contacting Chris Green on 07508219072
