Friends of Caen Meadow

Caen Meadow is a precious, rare and beautiful public open space in our village. It is enjoyed by many hundreds of people each year. But to keep it looking lovely the Parish Council is looking for some willing help. We only have one employee - our Clerk, Clare Male. All the members of the Parish Council are unpaid volunteers. Between us we devote many hours each month the the village tackling a wide range of issues. Events this summer with illegal camping and the lighting of fires and barbecues have highlighted the need for vigilance. But we cannot be everywhere and so we thought we might launch a Friends Of Caen Meadow Group to assist us in our endeavours. The hope is that a group of people can band together to help care for this wonderful open space as well as being the eyes and ears of the Parish Council to keep an eye on it. There would be input from the Police to the group. If you are a regular user of Caen Meadow and would be interested in helping form a Friends group please contact Cllr Elaine Allsop - elaine.allsop@wroxhamparishcouncil.org or contact our Parish Clerk.

Planning

The Parish Council has agreed to oppose two current planning applications. The first is one to make changes to Heronby, a house in Beech Road - the former home of George Formby - which would include replacing the thatched roof on this iconic 1907 building with tiles. It is opposed on the grounds it does not comply with the policy on the conservation area in our new Neighbourhood Plan. The Council also noted the application is opposed by heritage officers from the Broads Authority which is the planning body in this case. The second opposition is to a plan relating to cart lodges being built at a property In Norwich Road. Again this application is being opposed in that the design and possible use does not comply with the Neighbourhood Plan.
