HOVETON & DISTRICT WI We welcomed Maggie Dixon as our speaker in September. Maggie has served in the police force and was a magistrate before working on the Independent Monitoring Board which oversees all things connected with running a prison. Prisoners’ welfare is closely monitored and provision must be made for all faiths, dietary requirements, mental , physical and spiritual well being of prisoners and staff alike. We heard of initiatives such as the ‘buddy system’ where younger inmates help the older ones, and the setting up of a visitor centre to cater for visiting families. October is our birthday month when we welcome members from other WIs and our speaker this year is Mrs. Juyna Lewis who will be giving ideas for ‘’Spicing up your Christmas’. Visitors and new members are always welcome. If you would like to come and see us, we meet in Hoveton Village Hall on the first Wednesday of each month at 2pm and meetings always end with a natter and a cuppa! We can also be found at the monthly producers market in Hoveton village hall dispensing hot drinks and bacon rolls. October’s market is on Saturday 26th, so come and say hello. Why not pop in or ring Sue on 01603 783387 if you would like more details.
WROXHAM WI At Wroxham WI August is always Garden Party month. This year it was perfect A beautiful garden setting, lots of sunshine and a gentle breeze, plenty of teatime treats and time for members to sit, relax and enjoy each other’s company with a few quizzes to provide some mental stimulation. The October meeting is on Wednesday 16th in the Church Hall on Norwich Road, Wroxham at 2.30 pm. “Christmas Magic” will be presented by Jacquie Aldous. That sounds intriguing and exciting but is also a reminder that the end of the WI year is drawing near with the Annual Meeting and Birthday lunch in November and in December the Christmas Party. In 2020 Wroxham WI will celebrate its 70th Birthday! There is so much to look forward to and join in, if a member wishes, not only in Wroxham WI but also in the WI movement in Norfolk and nationally. If you would like to know more please come to a meeting or telephone Jean on 01603 782875.
SOLO CLUB So far we have not received any response regarding someone willing to form a new committee to run the Solo club. This club has been run successfully by the present committee for 18 yrs and has a membership of 34. We meet once a month and have the occasional speaker but generally it is a social occasion with board games or just a chat among friends plus the usual tea and biscuits. For the meeting on the 8th October we meet at the earlier time of 1.00pm for our fish and chip lunch. Tel. Janet 01603 782178 or Joan 782516
