WROXHAM GUIDES
Sadly at the end of the summer term, , due to ill health we said goodbye to our assistant leader and for happier, goodbye to one of our regular unit helpers as she is expecting her first child. Fortunately we welcome three mums who will job share and join Brenda who used to help Guides on a rota. Ideally Wroxham Guides would like a volunteer to assist regularly at our weekly meetings by becoming an assistant leader - an opportunity to inspire girls, have fun and make a difference. Uniform, support and training provided to ladies 18+. No prior experience necessary and you could find yourself doing some amazing things - stand up paddle boarding; singing along with 10,000 Guides at Wembley Arena or sharing a skill or hobby with the Guides. Interested, contact Kate and come and visit to see Guiding in action. Please continue reading to see what we’ve done recently.
What a fun way to end of the summer term, 1st Wroxham Guides invited other local Guide Units to join us on Disco River Cruise along the River Bure. Guides danced, drank, chatted and sang for 2 hours aboard the Southern Comfort. Other recent activities included an evening playing Mini Golf at Wroxham Barns followed by drinks and cupcakes. It was a noisy night as Guides came whizzing down the ski slope in tubes at Trowse and we held a camp fire with each Guide toasting marshmallows and squidging them between chocolate biscuits. The Rangers invited us to a joint meeting and we helped pitch all the District tents to ensure they had the right poles, a mallet, sufficient pegs and identifying those that needed attention which fitted in nicely with our theme for the term, Have Adventure Camp. After all the hard work, it was time for a get together over hot dogs and drinks.
Six Guides enjoyed a weekend Patrol camp planned and ran by Rachel one of our Patrol Leaders. Rachel wrote equipment lists; shopping lists, planned a full and varied programme with the Guides trying various clauses from the new badge book. They also enjoyed a trip to Hautbois and had fun on the nightline. Back at camp they played ‘Capture the Flag’, held a campfire and of course they cooked all their own meals and cleared away afterwards.
At the start of the autumn term, 1st Wroxham Guides joined two coaches full of Hautbois District Brownie and Guide Units for a fun day out to Colchester Zoo. It was a great day out in the sun. Some Guides will be attending WOW - the Guide & Ranger Wonder of Words event and / or the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineers and Maths) event at Aviva. At the Patrol Leaders meeting, planning has now been done for the remainder of the term - candle making, cooking, ice skating, a party, the Christmas Camp, upcycling, making mocktails, a Halloween themed evening, macramé, a varied selection of Girlguiding Unit Meeting Activities (UMAs) and Skill Builder challenges have also be slotted into the programme and.... well, you’ll just have to read the next edition of the Bridge. .
