day for attendance. Today, our 2nd best attended day, Sunday, was a complete washout. We did not get to open our gates and of course our Midway was not able to oper- ate.
I share this because, I know we are not alone. All of us
work all year to plan and organize incredible events for our communities, but the one thing beyond our control is the

regarding amusement devices and the attraction indus- try. This includes permitting of events and safety inspections of amusement rides and attractions.
Thank you to Lisa Hinton and the Florida Federation of Fairs for invit- ing Zone 2 to have an article in the Federation newsletter. As I sit here today, writing my message, it is coming with a very different per- spective on Fair operations. Today, for the first time in my memory, our Fair is closed due to Mother Nature. Yesterday, the rain began and im- pacted our traditionally strongest
weather. So, although our grounds are soaked, our Midway lights are dark and our vendors and conces- sionaires are unable to operate their very important businesses, we will not let the rain dampen our spirits. Fairs are our future and the future is bright and sunny. On another note, I want to thank
the many people who offered their assistance with our Zone 2 member- ship drive, our YP initiatives and helping keep the IAFE top of our minds through our social media activities. In the next few weeks, I will be reaching out to those individuals to solidify plans. It is always great to know how many of you are willing to do anything that is needed. If you want to be involved, the opportunities abound! We need all of you!
Vicki Chouris, Zone 2 Director
Council Members: Michelle Faulk, Martha Leverock, Charles Panacek, Allan Harrison, Jerry Smithson.
The Federation will continue to sponsor the IAFE Institute of Fair Management Scholar- ship. Applications are due April 1st. If you have any Institute attendees, please encourage them to apply for this scholar- ship. The Rules and application form are on our website.
