Youghal Town Nominated for ‘Pride in Our Community Award’
by ANDREA CUNNINGHAM
As Pride of Place takes place for the 16th
consec-
utive year, Youghal was nominated by Cork Coun- ty Council for a ‘Pride in Our Community Award’. On Wednesday 1 August, two judges arrived in the sea side town of Youghal, to see for themselves what a wonderful town Youghal really
is, and the hard
work and effort put in by local organisations to keep the town thriving. The purpose of the
competition is to acknowl- edge the work being done every day by communities all over Ireland. Since the
competition of
commenced
the judges have met hun- dreds
thousands of
people, all of whom are proud of their place- just like the people of Youghal.
After the judges had
viewed the stalls on display in the Mall Art Centre and spoke to local groups, there was a tour of the town proudly led by Dep- uty Mayor Mary Linehan Foley to show the full ex- tent of the external beauty of Youghal.
The Judges
certainly were impressed with what they saw and, hopefully, it will be anoth- er award for Youghal. Re- sults will be announced in November.
