A large number of partic- ipants joined the Mount Uniacke Vintage Run in aid of The Irish Heart Foundation on Sunday, 5 August. This was an especially poignant event commemorating members Larry Long and Finbar Hurley who, sadly, have passed away. Over 300 vehicles, including 278 tractors, took part. Spec- tators and well-wishers lined the road and field as a cavalcade of tractors were driven in and lined

up for the off. Included in the line-up was a very special tractor with “Just Married” written on the back window as newly- weds (and Mount Uniacke Vintage Club committee members), Diane Sheehan and Seán Flanagan, entered the field in style. A cheer came from the crowd to greet them. The Memorial Run was an essential stop off on the way to their honeymoon this week.

Speaking with Jerry Fitzgerald,( Chairman of the Mount Uniacke Vintage Club), he said, “We were thrilled with the turnout. The numbers exceeded our expec-

tations. Of course, the weather was a great help. I’d like, on behalf of the committee, to thank all our sponsors, participants and well-wishers. Also, a huge thank you to the hard working ladies who looked after all the food, our DJ, the stewards and bar staff at Long’s – it was a 100% community effort and, as usual, the surrounding locality rose to the occasion.” There was a mighty night in the pub afterwards with the auctioning of signed Cork and Galway shirts, music pumping out and general high spirit – all in memory of Larry and Finbar. “We don’t have an official

total of the amount raised yet”, said Jerry, “as there are still some amounts coming in. However, I feel I can say with absolute confidence that last year’s amount will be surpassed and we surely will have over €15,000.”

The date of the presenta- tion night, when the funds raised will be handed over to the Irish Heart Founda- tion, will be decided at the next committee meeting. An amazing day that resulted from all the hard work and preparation by the Vintage Club and how wonderful the support from the local community.
