Castlelyons bow out of
Junior B Hurling Championship. Castlelyons 0-20 St Catherines 0-22 Our
Junior B hurl-
ers took on Sarsfields on Thursday evening in Glenville in the champi- onship. Sarsfields started well and were 0-4 up when Peter Roche rose a white flag for us. Then Ian O’Ri- ordan and Keith O’Leary added points and we were hurling well. Sarsfields through long puck outs and some good half for- wards got on top again and were 0-10 to 0-6 for us in the 15th
minute. How-
ever, credit our lads as the backs done well and Keith O’Leary had a fine game both from frees and play got some great points well supported by Ian O’Ri- ordan and Brian O’Dono- van to leave the minimum in it at half time Sarsfields 0-12 Castlelyons 0-11. There was a lot of good
hurling early in the second half as Keith O’Leary 0-2, Ian O’Riordan 0-1 and Peter Roche 0-1 had it at 0-16 apiece with fifteen minutes left. Eoin and Andrew O’Neill came on for Padraig Murphy and Chris Cotter at this stage. Sarsfields began to forge ahead again as they were going well in a few areas. However, our lads as they stuck to the task. Shane
O’Sullivan and Keith O’Leary waded in with some good scores keeping us in touch. Then Brian O’Donovan put over a beauty of a sixty-five al- most on time and it was all square on 0-20 apiece but Sarsfields had the strength to score two more points and take the spoils. Our full back Liam Mo-
roney, out injured, was a big loss to us but fair play to all the defence they done very well and especially to Conor McCarthy who re- ceived a nasty injury last week and came back to do very well against Sars. Brian O’Donovan and Peter Roche done very well at midfield as did our forwards scoring 0-20 in a high scoring game. We

SENIORS ARE IN ACTION, LET’S HAVE YOUR SUPPORT! One of the generally
acknowledged downsides of this year’s amended inter-county hurling and football season has been the negative impact on the club scene, and the poor beleaguered hurl- er or footballer who has been waiting patiently (or not!) since April to play their next championship game. Cork’s demise at the hands of Limerick in Croke Park last Sun- day has finally paved the way for the Cork senior hurling championship to kick back into action after that four-month hiatus, and for Killeagh it means all roads lead to Clon- mult Park, Midleton, on Sunday next August 12th where we will have a 2.15 p.m. throw in, the first game in a senior hurling double header (Na Piar- saigh play Bride Rovers at 4.00 p.m.). Our oppo- nents are the mighty St. Finbarr’s from Togher who were narrowly de-
feated by Newcestown in Round 1, and, like our- selves, are now fighting to stay in contention in this year’s championship. With Damien Cahalane, his brother Conor who scored four points in a 25-minute cameo for Cork U21s in Saturday’s All-Ireland semi-final, and Bily Hennessy, an- other U21 star and fu- ture senior Cork hurler leading their charge, it will be a tough battle. As your support could be vital, please come out and shout for the Boys in Green. Please note that we have been advised by Midleton GAA that there will be very limited park- ing around the environs of the pitch and that per- haps Market Green may be an alternative parking area for some patrons.

JUVENILE NEWS Fé 16 P2 Hurling
League Killeagh-Ita’s 7-8, Ballincollig 1-24 In another one of
this year’s series of nev- er-ending crazy games, our Fé 16 hurlers proved conclusively on Friday night last that goals ac- tually do win games, 7 to be exact. We welcomed Ballincollig to Killeagh to play our 4th
league game.
Our opponents are top of the league and still in championship and have been performing well so we know this would be a tough encounter. We started the first quarter stronger and were ahead by 1-3 to 0-2, however Ballincolling eventually found their rhythm and scored 9 points in quick succession. The half- time whistle couldn’t come soon enough for our mentors as it was evi- dent our boys needed one of Donie’s motivational speeches. Niall O’Neill, reiteoir, confirmed the score at the interval as 2-4 to 1-16. It must have been some speech as Killeagh-Ita’s outscored Ballincollig by an im- pressive 5-4 to 0-8 in the second half. Cork Under 21 Hurlers show no mercy as they
second half, they never gave up and this nev- er say die attitude was handsomely rewarded. Ciaran O’Rourke was the assasin-in-chief, being on the receiving end of some excellent assists and having the skill, strength and confidence to rack up a personal best of 6-4. Well done to all the boys who showed exactly what pride in the jersey can achieve. This win plac- es them second on the league table after 4 games behind Ballincollig who have played 6.

trash Wexford to reach final. Congratulations to the
U21 Rebel hurlers as they swept to a 3-26 to 0-13 win over Wexford in Nowlan Park on Saturday to reach the Final for the first time in two decades. Well mar deirtear “mol an oige agus tiocfaidh said” and this looks the case as Denis Ring and his management outfit have done excellent work with these lads over the last few years. They now play the winners of Galway or Tipperary in the final at the end of August and with a bit of luck, they can go on to win it out . Well done to our own Castlelyons man Ni- all O’Leary who excelled at full back and to the Ro- che brothers from neigh- bours Bride Rovers, who are members of the pan-

CONGRATULA- TIONS
and BEST WISHES BRENDAN Last weekend, in the
excitement of all that was going on in the senior hurling championship, I neglected to mention that Ciarán O’Brien, our talented minor hurling coach, played with Cork intermediate hurlers as they won the All-Ireland Final against Kilkenny last Saturday week. Con- gratulations to Ciarán, who can add this medal to his Imokilly county medal and All-Ireland sevens medal and many other personal achieve- ments with his club St. Ita’s, his college, division- al and inter-county hon- ours. Ciarán’s colleague on our minor coaching ticket for 2018, another excellent young coach, Brendan Delaney, leaves our green isle shortly to

el also. We wish Declan Dalton, Fr O’Neills, who is such a vital part of the team on the 40, a speedy recovery from a nasty knee injury and hopefully he will be fit for the final.
Castlelyons Juveniles doing well in County selections. I see that Cork U16
hurlers won an intercoun- ty tournament up in Kil- dangan, Co. Tipperary at the week end. They had great victories over Galway, Kilkenny and Tipperary and the cap- tain was Castlelyons man Leon Doocey. Congrats and well done to Leo on a great achievement. Then in the U15B hurl-
ing tournament Cork are going very well with re- cent wins Kilkenny and
take up a teaching post in the Middle East. We wish Brendan the best of luck and hope that our mi- nor hurling and football campaign can continue in the same vein in his absence. Go n-éirí leat, a Bhreándáin!
