Championship Action Resumes In Cork Following on from the senior hurling defeat
to
Limerick, clubs will now be focussing on the do- mestic Cork championship with games set
to recom-
mence this coming week- end for some clubs. It is now squeaky bum time for all clubs with no second chances available so we should be in for some really exciting games.
Friday August 10th
7.30pm
St Catherine’s v Mayfield Last year’s junior cham-
pions, St Catherine’s take on the 2016 winners May- field and this should be a tight enough contest be- tween these sides at Fer- moy. Players such as Nicky and Shane Kelly will be to the fore for Mayfield, while Dan Mangan, Eoin Con- don and Brian Mulcahy
in Fermoy at
will spearhead the St Cath- erine’s
challenge. There
will not be a whole lot be- tween them but I think that St Catherine’s might just prevail in this one.
U21P2HC: Round 1 in Castletownroche at 7.30pm In the
2,U21hurling that the men from Erin’s
Own will be too strong for Ballincollig. County star Robbie O’ Flynn will lead the Erin’s Own challenge and I think that they will be too strong for the Musk- erry men.
Saturday August 11th
Premier champi-
onship, Shandrum will take on Midleton in Cas- tletownroche, and while Shandrum will be strong enough I think a Midleton side with the likes of Sea- naidh Smith to the fore will be too strong for their ri- vals and Midleton are tak- en to come out on top here with extra time in the event of a draw..
U21P2HC : Round 1 Erin’s Own v Ballincollig at 7.30pm Another U21 Premier 2
hurling contest and like in the previous one I think
IFC Rnd 3 in Bandon Youghal v Gabriel Rangers Youghal will travel to Bandon, more in hope than with confidence when they take on Gabriel Rangers in the 3rd
round of the In-
termediate Football cham- pionship. If Youghal can play to their full potential, they would be well capable of getting a result. Players such as Nigel Roche, Alan Frahill O’Connor, Bill Cooper, Richie Cunning- ham, Mathew Farrell and Andrew Joyce are all fine footballers and if they do turn up then they could well come out on top.
IHC Rnd 3 in
Fermoy: Sarsfields v Kildorrery at 7.30pm This will be a big ask for
Sarsfields and while play- ers such as Pat Barry, Ray Ryan and Joe Cashman will bring plenty of experi- ence, Kildorrery with An- drew and Peter O’ Brien as their driving force will probably be the slight fa- vourite. A Sarsfields victo- ry cannot be ruled out but Kildorrery would be enti- tled to the favourites tag.
IHC Rnd3 in Pairc Ui Rinn: Dungourney v Tracton at 7.45pm This is a hard one to call
as on their day Tracton can be very impressive and if they turn up on their best form,
then Dungourney
could be in for a tough night. On the other hand if Dungourney can get the likes of Niall Motherway, James McCarthy, Shane Hegarty and Ryan Denny

to hit top form, then they would be in with a serious chance of winning. It is a hard one to call and while my head says Tracton, my heart feels that Dungour- ney have a big game in them and they are given a less than confident vote to come out on top.
ECJAHSC: Cobh v Fr ‘O’Neill’s at 6.30pm The venue has yet to be
confirmed for the meeting of Cobh and Fr O’Neill’s in the Junior “A” East Cork Oil hurling champion- ship. This will be the Fr O’Neill’s second string but they will still be strong with the likes of Ger O’Leary, still
a cracking contest in this opening
Harnedy will have keep- er Pat
round contest. O’Brien, Eoin
playing well. Cobh
should advance from this one especially if Darragh Kelleher and Cian Spriggs are on form.
ECJAHC: Russell Rover’s v St ITA’s at 4.00pm Here again the venue is
to be announced but last year’s runner up Russell Rovers and St
Ita’s led
by Cork captain Seamie Harnedy, should produce
Loughlin, Cathal Deane and Darragh and Ciaran O’Brien to assist him. Still they will need to be in top form against a Russell Rovers side hoping to go one better this time round. Players such as JP Ivor’s, Jack McGrath, Josh Beau- sang, Chris Ruddy and Brian Hartnett will make a bold bid for success here. It has the makings of a great game and if Russell Rovers can keep Seamus Harnedy quiet then they can come out on top. If not then St ITA’s could get the win. Sunday August 12th SHC Rnd 2: Killeagh v
St Finbarrs in Midleton at 2.15pm SHC Rnd 2 Bride Rov-
ers v Na Piarsigh at 4.00pm There should be a sizea-
ble attendance at Clonmult Memorial Park in Midle- ton for this attractive dou- ble header as Killeagh take on St Finbarr’s and Bride Rovers meet Na Piarsigh in second round games in the Cork senior hurling cham- pionship.

would appear against
it
Both East Cork sides to be up
with Killeagh
hoping that Cian Fogarty, Andy Walsh, Gary Le- ahy, Philip O’Neill, Shane Smiddy Alan Keniry and Eoin Keniry are all in top form. They will need to be as St Finbarr’s will be backboned by the Cala- hane brothers and while they will not be too familiar with the Midleton venue, St Finbarr’s will be short odds to win here. In the second game Na
Piarsigh with Christopher Joyce back to his best, will be hoping to get the better of Bride Rovers. This will certainly be a much more physical contest with vet- erans Brian Murphy and Barry Johnson still the go too men for Bride Rovers with young guns Brian and Eoin Roche likely to come up against Daire Connery in what will be another tight
game. Na Piarsigh
will be most people’s fancy but you write Bride Rovers off at your peril and if the Rathcormac outfit can hit form they could cause an upset.
