SATURDAY 2 SEPTEMBER - KINGSWEAR FAMILY FUN DAY Thanks to our wonderful sponsors, enthusiastic committee members and lovely volunteers KFFD will take place this year on saturday september 2nd on Jubilee park. The event will start at 12 noon and continue until the last reveller has tottered home... if weather permits! It’s a great family day out so bring your chairs and picnic rugs and make a day of it!


As well as the firm favourites such as the classic car display, the duck race and the fun dog show we are introducing some new attractions to draw in the crowds and raise more funds for our nominated charities.


Introducing the GreAT


KINGsWeAr bAKe OFF to showcase the extensive culinary skills in the community. bakers are invited to submit cakes in three categories: sponge, fruit and small cakes/muffins with a chance of winning cash prizes! There is also a children’s section so we are expecting some spectacular show stoppers. Entrants are also invited to donate their cakes on the day so we can sell them and help raise substantial sums for our charities. DJ somer will be there to entertain with a bubble Disco and we are also looking forward to a spectacular bollywood Dancing Display. Aspiring musicians can advertise their talents in buskers’ Corner and brixham scout Group will organise the children’s games so expect challenges! There will be crafts, competitions and activities for the children including


a Dinosaur Trail with a prize for everyone who completes the course. expect some great raffle prizes and with a draw every hour you won’t need to contain your anticipation for the whole afternoon.


There will be a Killer skittle Challenge, a tug of war and of course the Annual eggathon. expect plenty of mouthwatering food. As well as an extensive bar, hot drinks and cakes there will be Ian Fenton’s Lamb roast, a bbQ with bacon, burgers and hot dogs, a salad bar and a Curry stall kindly supported by The Seven Stars in Totnes. Dartmouth Ice Cream Company will also return to tantalise your taste buds with a mystery ice cream flavour.

• setting up the stalls and organising the site • Helping to run the stalls and children’s activities • selling raffle tickets • serving food and hot drinks • Donating items for the raffle or tombola. We are making food hampers so suitable items will be gratefully received. This year our chosen charities are


rowcroft, shelterbox, Kingswear Village Hall Curtain Fund, Kingswear rowing Club, Froward point, brixham scout Group, FrOsT and Cancer Research UK. so please come along and support this wonderful local event. Together we can make Kingswear Family Fun Day into a wonderful memorable event for all our community and a real benefit for our charities. See you there!


The End of an Era Liz blyde has contacted me to ask me to include the following rather sad little piece; it speaks for itself: ‘It is with sadness that I write to record the closure of the Kingswear branch of the Women’s Institute, as of may this year, which marked the 91st annual meeting. Kingswear WI started in 1926 and has run since that year. It closed with some 20 plus members but was unable to form a new committee. This marks
