The success of the week and enjoyment of those attending depends upon everyone staying safe. please listen to, and follow, the instructions of officials and event orgasnisers who may ask you do things that are not normal practice to enhance safety or to help other river users.

Harbour users not involved in the


regatta are reminded to keep clear of the organised waterborne events and exercise particular caution when underway in the area during this period. some of the events such as the firework and air displays will require us to close certain parts of the harbour for short periods of time so we can maximise safety. Local Notices to mariners will be available so please do take heed of these and note the areas and timings so to avoid any potential delays or disruption.


The centre piece of the air displays will be the rAF Typhoon routine. Owing to tighter safety regulations, the air displays organised for 2017 will involve greater stand-off distances and a reduced number of fast jets in the


artmouth royal regatta is the busiest week of the year on the


darkness or restricted visibility please show the appropriate lights and signals. previous years have seen incidents involving unlit tenders returning to larger vessels on moorings. The International regulations for prevention of Collisions at sea includes use of a torch or white light if you’re using your dinghy at night and should be adhered to at all times.

The river Dart is one of the most beautiful rivers on the south Coast and is popular with both leisure and commercial users. Our aim is to see it flourish whilst preserving its environmental integrity. We hope that you enjoy the regatta but that you minimise the environmental impact of your activities so that the Dart remains an area of outstanding natural beauty.


The speed limit within the DHNA


area is 6 knots – the impact of wake is easily felt in this waterway by users, flora and fauna alike. We look for your help to protect the environment and ask you to obey the Dart Harbour byelaws. please be careful and mindful of others during this very busy period.


In addition to staff organising and


arranging events during the regatta Dart Harbour and Navigation Authority staff will be available at the office


during working hours or at callsign ‘DArTNAV’ on VHF Ch11. If you have any questions about the management of the harbour during the regatta please speak to a member of staff, call the office on (01803 832337 or visit our website at www.dartharbour.org).


Sailing Events start on August 19 with junior and senior dinghy racing followed by a large number of racing yachts arriving, having taken part in the annual passage race from brixham on August 23. Yacht and keelboat racing will take place from August 24 to August 27.


These sailing events will involve a high volume of activity in and near the harbour over this period with hundreds of boats competing in approximately 50 races. Dinghy sailing will take place within the harbour at Dittisham and Kingswear and yacht and day boat racing in the mouth of the river as well as further out to sea.


Rowing events will begin prior to


the regatta with practice races taking place from August 14 to August 18 from 6.30pm to 8pm between Noss and Warfleet. Heats will take place on August 20 with semi-finals and long distance whaler race finals August 21 and the finals on August 25. West of england A.r.A races will take place on August 24. While safety and support craft will be in attendance, we would still ask mariners to take care and keep a watchful eye open.


Firework Displays As usual there will be two firework displays taking place on August 24 from 9.00pm and August 26 again from 9.00pm.

BOARD MEETING There is no board meeting in August – the next one will take place on monday september 11 at Dittisham Village Hall, from 4.50 pm and as usual there is an opportunity for members of the public to ask questions during the first ten minutes.
