Nominations open as awards night heads for another sell-out
Tickets are selling out fast for this year’s
Asian Business Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) annual dinner and awards. The event is taking place at the International
Convention Centre in Birmingham, and has this year moved to a large capacity hall. Despite that, more than half of the tickets
have already been sold – this follows on from the success of last year’s event, which sold out months in advance. It is anticipated there will be even greater
interest in this year’s awards, as ABCC is celebrating its 30th anniversary. The event is taking place on 2 December. At present, there are two main sponsors,
HSBC and Doug Wright trading as McDonalds. Debbie Harper, area director, HSBC business banking, said: “HSBC is delighted to be headline sponsor for the ABCC annual dinner again in 2017. It is a fantastic opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the city and region, at a time
when we are looking forward to the opening of the new the headquarters of HSBC UK in Birmingham in 2018.” Doug Wright, who owns 15 McDonalds
franchise restaurants in the Midlands, said: “I am hoping that the sponsorship of the award will help further my business links in the West Midlands. It’s also a way for me to contribute to the vibrancy, vitality and the success of the city and its businesses.” Category sponsors so far include Birmingham
City University, Mazars and Birmingham Airport. This year, there are two new categories,
‘Outstanding People Development’ and ABCC ‘Business of the Year’, with the latter chosen from the winners of all of the seven other categories. The remaining categories are: ‘Outstanding
Small Business of the Year (which is being sponsored by BCU); ‘Outstanding Large Business of the Year’ (which is being sponsored by
Mazars); ‘Outstanding Start-up Business of the Year’; ‘Outstanding Business Woman of the Year’; ‘Outstanding Customer Service of the Year’; and ‘Outstanding Contribution to Society’. The overall ‘Outstanding Business of the Year’
category is being sponsored by Birmingham Airport.
Nominations have now opened for the awards,
and entries will be accepted until 29 September. ABCC president Saqib Bhatti said: This year is
going to be extra special due to the fact it is our 30th anniversary celebration and we expect many businesses to be applying for our prestigious awards. “I encourage all those who are thinking about applying to do so. It is a great honour to participate.”
