CBE for long-serving airport chief

Birmingham Chamber president Paul Kehoe has been recognised with a CBE for his contribution to the thriving West Midlands region and economy. Mr Kehoe, who is stepping down as chief executive

of Birmingham Airport, led a substantial transformation at the airport since he joined the business in October 2008. Under his leadership, the airport has built

relationships with new carriers, grown passenger numbers to more than 12 million, and delivered significant economic value to the region. Mr Kehoe has been increasingly involved in

successfully promoting the West Midlands Region as chairman of Marketing Birmingham, president of the Chamber and in a new capacity as chairman of the West Midlands Growth Company. He is leaving the airport in order to focus more on

his regional commitments. Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce chief

executive Paul Faulkner said: “I’d like to congratulate our president Paul Kehoe on this tremendous honour. “It is a well-deserved honour for a true business

leader who has worked tirelessly to promote the Greater Birmingham region.” “I have known Paul since he took the job at the

airport and have got to know him ever better during the first months of his presidency. He has made an unbelievable contribution to the region and the Chamber and we look forward to continuing to work with him as president.

“It is also greatly to the benefit of the Chamber

and the region that he is continuing as chairman of the West Midlands Growth Company. When Paul was appointed in 2008 he expected to stay for only five years and it is a mark of the man that he became so enthused by the region that he has stayed on for a further four years.” John Hudson, chairman of Birmingham Airport

and former president of Birmingham Chamber, said: “On behalf of the Board and the Airport I would like to congratulate Paul on this fantastic achievement. Paul has established himself as a true regional leader and is extremely deserving of this award. “His work with local communities along with his

drive to make Birmingham and the Midlands region more connected on a global scale is continuing to make the regional economy thrive. Going forward we wish him every success.” Mr Kehoe said: “It has been a privilege to serve

the people of the West Midlands by leading their airport at this exceptional time. I planned originally to stay only for five years, but the challenge became so exciting that I stayed for another four. “In every role there is a natural business cycle, and

after delivering significant airline and passenger growth, completing all the major development projects which resulted in a doubling of the profit, generating significant dividends for shareholders and the region, I feel it is time for the next generation to take the business forward.”

Anne takes up chains of office

Birmingham’s new lord mayor, Cllr Anne Underwood, has taken up office. Cllr Underwood (pictured) was

elected as a councillor for Four Oaks Ward in 1982 and then elected as the first female leader of the Conservative Group of the council in 1993. She has been spokesman or

chairman of many portfolios, most recently as chairman of the Vulnerable Children’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee and has served the Conservative group as leader, group whip, treasurer and secretary. As a member of Sutton’s

Business investment District Board, she worked with council officers and the BID management to build a close working relationship that

“I care deeply about people who

suffer with dementia and for that reason, Dementia UK is one of the charities that I will be supporting this year. I will also continue to raise funds for the Whizz Kidz Charity which provides specially adapted wheelchairs for children with mobility issues.” Greater Birmingham Chambers

helped to build the BID’s success. She also chaired the Steering Group that laid the groundwork for the establishment of a Town Council for Sutton Coldfield. Cllr Underwood said: “I am proud to serve Birmingham as Lord Mayor.

of Commerce chief executive Paul Faulkner said: “On behalf of everyone at the Chamber, I would like to congratulate Cllr Underwood on taking the role of Lord Mayor. “We must also say a huge thank

you to outgoing Lord Mayor Carl Rice and his wife Deed. They have been fantastic ambassadors for the city and it has been a pleasure supporting them.”
