Character Options and Coolabi team up for Clangers
Character has secured UK distribution and global (excluding US) manufacturing rights for plush and playsets based on the upcoming CBeebies series. The new product will be launching at retail in Autumn/Winter 2015. Jon Diver, Character
Option’s joint managing director says: “Clangers is an evergreen property that already has a strong following amongst parents of many of today’s pre-schoolers. With the upcoming CBeebies series, and timeless storylines and characters, the time is ripe to bring it back to market as a major toy line.” Coolabi, Smallfi lms, CBeebies and US 24-hour pre-school network,
Sprout, are co-producing the series, with BBC Worldwide for its international channels. BBC Worldwide is also confi rmed as the international distributor for the show. The £5m production is already underway and is set for a return to the small screen in 2015.
HTI reveals new Barbie & Me products
HTI has announced new lines following the successful multi- territory launch of Barbie & Me role-play toys last year in partnership with Mattel Consumer Products. New for 2014 is the Barbie &
Me Colour Change Glam Bag, where children can hold it against whatever they want to match it to, press the button and watch the bag change colour. The bag comes with clip-on decorative accessories, and for the Barbie doll there is a mini matching clutch bag. The Barbie & Me Colour Change Glam Bag has been awarded winner of the Toy Fair Best New Toy Awards 2014 in the Role-Play Toys category. The toy will be supported by an extensive and fully integrated TV advertising, marketing and PR campaign from Autumn 2014. Also new to the range for 2014 is the Barbie & Me Cupcake Creations
and Ice Cream Creations Sets, a Sweet Stylin’ Hair Rollers Set and Hair Band Designer Set, all featuring related accessories enabling girls to involve their Barbie doll in the same role-play pattern. HTI’s new refreshed Barbie & Me role-play toys will be available to buy internationally from Autumn 2014 from toy stores.

Sega reveals Sonic Boom
Sega is introducing a new branch of the Sonic universe, Sonic Boom, that will debut a new look for Sonic and friends, and launch its fi rst CG animated television series, new videogames and a new toy line. Sonic Boom’s visual identity includes character designs inspired by the abilities and unique personalities of each of the characters while maintaining the core identity and values of the Sonic brand. The Sonic Boom television series, co-produced by Sega of America and OuiDO!
Productions, will debut on Cartoon Network in the US and on Canal J and Gulli in France during the 2014/2015 season. Sonic Boom will be supported by a robust global licensing and merchandising
programme, anchored by new master toy partner Tomy. Tomy’s line will showcase the new character looks, stressing interaction between core characters, and will feature new play patterns based on both the new game and TV series. Tomy will develop a comprehensive toy range across a broad number of categories including plush, action fi gures, RC, role-play, vehicles and novelty. Sega will launch a broad licensing programme across multiple categories including toys, apparel, publishing, accessories, food and beverage and more. The company will enlist many of its current partners who have had success with Sonic over the past years while seeking new licensees to join this new Sonic licensing programme.
Click Distribution partners with Zodiak Rights
Click Distribution has announced a partnership with Zodiak Rights on Mister Maker that will see the launch of the fi rm’s fi rst licensed product, the Mister Maker: Make It In A Minute Board Game in the UK. This collaboration will expand Click’s operations in the UK as it marks the fi rm’s fi rst venture into developing and manufacturing its own product. Mister Maker: Make It In A Minute Board Game, which is currently in development, will be a stimulating toy that takes the popular ‘Minute Make’ concept from the CBeebies TV show and adapts it into a board game. In addition to launching the Mister Maker board game at London Toy Fair,
Mister Maker also introduced Giromax’s new toy range Mister Maker’s Clay Buddies, which will be distributed by Click in the UK. Due to launch at retail in Spring 2014, the product will be available in four different skus, with prices ranging from pocket money purchase 99p to gift sets at £14.99.
