Founded in 1992, the Connecticut Institute of Herbal Studies focuses on Traditional Chinese Medicine and offers a Nationally Certified Herbology Program with a foundation in both theory and clinical diagnosis as practiced in China today. Traditional Chinese Medicine has been practiced for over 4000 years. It employs a highly developed theoretical system which determines the appropriate application of herbs based on an individual’s unique symptoms and not just on a named disease. In this way, TCM treats the causes of disease and not just the disease itself. CIHS is an approved provider for the NCBTMB for Massage Therapists and for the CT Chiropractic Association. Clinical Aromatherapy, international lecturers on Chinese Herbs, and University level professors provide advanced training in the art and science of plant medicines and TCM. Annual Cultural Trips to China have been arranged each November for 14 years and provide training in Tuina, Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine as well as offering adventurers a trip that is flexible, rewarding, and personal.
