Tune IN: Follow your Intuition to Fulfillment and Flow

When I was invited to interview Sonia Choquette for our Winter issue, I was so honored and excited! I have been a fan of her work for years now and am delighted to introduce her to you (or re-introduce, since I am certain that many of you are already fans as well), along with her latest fabulous book. Personally, I had emailed her some years back asking permission to teach her Creating Your Heart’s Desire class locally. She granted permission as long as I remained true to her vision and teachings, which I was thrilled to carry through on. I have offered it quite a few times with wonderful experiences. Sonia Choquette is one of my all-time favorite spiritual teachers, and I hope you will enjoy getting to know her a bit better and get a hold of her brand new book to enhance your own personal life and spiritual practices. Although she teaches internationally, she presents many workshops in the United States and in our New England area. Her presentations are not to be missed! Please enjoy her bountiful sharing here – her words and insights will be very helpful to our spiritual community. Thank you, Sonia!

DORY: We know that you come from a long line of intuitives, so growing up must have been fun, supportive, and comfortable with regard to utilizing your gifts. Did you meet with any criticism and judgment during your youth outside the home and how did you deal with it?

SONIA CHOQUETTE: Coming from a long line of intuitives, as a kid growing up, it was natural and expected that I listen to my intuition over everything else, at all times. I did not consider it unusual to do this, and was actually confused, and even found it a little strange when I began school and realized that others, both kids and adults alike, didn’t think and feel the same way.

Also, I went to Catholic school, filled with doctrine that included praying to Saints and angels, and the dearly departed, so I didn’t see my intuition

importance and necessity of intuition in my life and was not about to tone it down for anyone in order to get approval. Being judged for my sixth was like being judged for having ears. I thought it was crazy, and said so.

That discrimination followed me in others ways for most of my life, being met with those who say they “don’t believe in the sixth sense, and are intellectual instead.” Again, to me, this is as crazy as saying you believe the earth is flat, as if to suggest that being aware of more than meets the eye makes one less than an intelligent person. There is now strong scientific backup to support the existence of a sixth sense in all of us, and anyone who dismisses the sixth sense in today’s modern world is not well informed or current in their understanding of modern science, so in many ways they are still living in the dark ages. I accept that some catch up a little later than others so I take no offense, and tell my students they shouldn’t either.

as a conflict with my faith. While I was met with some negative judgment about my intuitive abilities and my “psychic family,” the truth is there was far more interest and curiosity about us than there was real discrimination, or rejection. Maybe there was more than I realized. I just mostly ignored it though.

Once I got a little older, during my teen-age years, I was met with more discrimination, as some of my friends had religious parents who perceived my intuitive work as something sinful, and treated me with disdain. I ended those friendships rather than feel self- conscious, as I was very clear about the

What is true is that our heart is a conscious and intelligent organ, as is our gut, and every other cell in our body, and each shares, through vibration, information to guide us, moment-to-moment, throughout each day. This means we all perceive life around and within us with far more than our five physical senses alone. We respond to life energetically and this is what informs the sixth sense.

Some of us are just better at paying attention to these subtle energetic signals than others. But we all have the potential to tune in at this subtle level, and should. Our sixth sense is our inner compass and guide. Without it we are seriously handicapped when it
