Surrender To The Float is a new center located in Guilford offering the blissful and mind expanding losing

experience oneself in a salt of bath. The

floatation tank was developed in the 1950s at the National Institute of Health for the purpose of doing brain research. Gravity is minimized by creating extreme buoyancy, which is accomplished by dissolving 800-1000 pounds of Epsom salt into skin temperature water. This results in a person floating like a cork, slightly above the water. The reduction of gravity in combination with being exposed to a high concentration of dissolved Epsom salt in a sensory deprivation environment has a myriad of health benefits. More details are available on their website. The center is operated by JEREMY SPANG and Reiki Master JOCELYN RUSTEMEYER. The center is located at 236 Church Street in Guilford and can be reached at (203) 506-9142.

PET THERAPY IN PRISON A unique

partnership is unfolding

at a Connecticut prison. Inmates are befriending greyhounds and training them for adoption. Inmates in Montville have been able to get some greyhounds trained and acclimated to the real world in record time. Before this, the dogs’ world consisted of being caged and being pushed to run; as soon as the gate opened, they took off. Now the greyhounds are retired and WAG, the non-profit We Adopt Greyhounds, helps them make the transition. They must learn how to walk on grass, climb stairs, how to sit, and how to deal with people in general. The inmates at Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center in Montville have been able to train the pups more quickly than expected. The inmates earn experience and a certificate, while the dogs gain skills for a home life.
