Honoring our Relationship with Money Spirituality is not

in Conflict with Financial Prosperity by Corrin Burke

When it comes to money, there are two kinds of people: those that worry about it and those that do not. Which one are you? Everyone’s relationship with money is unique and may be very complicated, as with many of our relationships. With our complicated relationships, we seek to understand them, learn from them, perhaps even simplify them but ultimately we want to grow from them. Money is no different. We all have some type of relationship with money, some of which prove to be very good whereas others require a bit of work to smooth out the rough spots. Although many people are content with their relationship

with money, many are not. Understanding how you may have developed this unhappy relationship and honoring where you presently are with money is the first step on your journey for improving your relationship with money. There are some people who believe we are born into this

life carrying baggage from past lives. Some of this baggage may be a sort of punishment for having been wealthy, while allowing other to unnecessarily suffer or perhaps ignoring loved ones who didn’t share the same financial status. In our present life, with our subconscious bearing the knowledge of our previous lives, we are in addition stimulated daily with the financial signals surrounding us. These financial signals are often times negative. Some negative signals are easily exemplified as we have witnessed our grandparents or parents struggle with the need of having enough or by being exposed to the snide remarks from people envious of someone’s fancy car or lavish house. We are exposed to the ramifications of greedy companies on their employees and their families. We can’t seem to live a single day without being bombarded with the negative money signals. Eventually, this negativity becomes ingrained as truth, our reality becomes skewed. Factor this in combination with our past life knowledge and your new subconscious is developed. Many of you may have heard of Collective Consciousness, which refers to the set of shared beliefs, ideas and moral attitudes which operate as a unifying

force within society.[1] In addition to your past life baggage and the negative money signals around you, the Collective Consciousness frequently works against you as you feel the negative energy from such a large force. We have all heard the saying, “The rich keep getting richer while the poor keep getting poorer.” This would be a Collective Belief. Certainly the rich do not have negative relationships with money and therefore minimal to no worries. Whereas, the less wealthy are often overwhelmed with worry often brought on by negative thoughts. If you find yourself worrying about money and feeling all this negativity, you may be wondering how to recreate a positive relationship with money. Money is nothing more than energy, a means of exchange.

Yet as simple as it may sound, many people do not feel positive about this. Working towards creating positive feelings is the key to eliminating the worry. Recently, I taught a class along with a friend who is a spiritual teacher. We wanted to explore issues regarding negative money attachments and to create a space to move past them. We created a list of negative words followed by creating their positive counterpart. Identifying the negative words enabled us to release the control these words had on us while replacing positive words to focus on. Explore what words hold a negative charge for you and to release them. Replace the negative words with words that speak to you in a positive way. Below is a list of both the negative words with their positive counterparts. Some people struggle by feeling spirituality conflicted with money spurred on by their religious upbringing. Throughout history, we have been directed to give our earnings to the church believing that sacrifice supersedes the desire for wealth or the
