pa & Wellness International Council (SWIC) is a non-profi t membership organisation, established in Russia in 2010, to support the development of spa and wellness industries in


the Russian Federation and CIS countries (Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan).


The young and quickly developing spa markets of the above mentioned countries have much in common – the long-term traditions of balneology and hydrotherapy, alongside with the relatively low standards of hospitality and medical services.


Although the regulations for spa and wellness businesses in CIS states are diff erent, the majority of treatments need to be licensed and spa therapists usually require a medical background.


The newly founded Spa & Wellness International Council (SWIC) is the only non-profi t organisation in the region aimed at developing the corporate standards for the industry of spa and wellness by combining the eff orts of governmental structures and private business.


SWIC is open for both individual and corporate membership (including foreign companies operating in Russia or CIS countries). The aim of SWIC is to become a body of experts providing support to the developing industry. Therefore members will be selected carefully.


The Committee of Experts, composed of prominent scientists, entrepreneurs and leading experts from diff erent countries, will provide consultations and professional support to SWIC members.


The key goals set by Spa and Wellness International Council are as follows:


■ Promote spa and wellness concepts in the region


■ Create an eff ective system of education and information in support of spa and wellness business


■ Help to implement innovative projects ■ Establish and promote spa and wellness standards


■ Collaborate with the governmental structures in order to create favourable conditions for business development

Although recently established, Spa& Wellness International Council has already undertaken a number of activities, launching a new educational programme for spa therapists and spa coordinators at the Russian Friendship University and holding conferences for spa and wellness professionals on a monthly basis.


Founder and president of SWIC is Elena Bogacheva, a leader in spa management consultancy and staff training in Russia, a pioneer of the Russian spa and wellness industry, and a long-term member of ISPA.


Executive director of SWIC is Julia Dolgova, managing partner of the Academy of Spa Technologies (Kazakhstan).
