MOVERS & SHAKERS I enjoy life while pursuing goals people
don’t thing are attainable under adversity. ‘No’ just means we haven’t found a way to say ‘yes’
PAUL ELMSLIE
T erapists are in a unique position to spot skin ailments as they get to see parts of the body that they can always see themselves
medicine is now considered to be the future of health services and we have governments in multiple countries seeing TeleDerm as a future solution. TeleDerm can be applied to many other sectors, such as spas. We focused on our medical version fi rst, as it is important to get the approval of the medical community, and it is now being used by the national health services in Australia and the UK. And now we are trialling TeleDermSPA,
with the intention of giving spa customers direct access to a dermatologist. T is will enable spas to off er an extra service (and rev- enue stream) without the need for structural changes or expensive equipment. A simple camera and internet connection is all they need. We provide the staff training. It’s all about simplicity for the spa and the client.
What else are you working on? We are currently fi nishing the business model to deliver a personal ‘sleep study’ that will

work within a hotel environment. T e client would book the service, pick up a device from the spa to wirelessly monitor their sleep pat- terns at night and then return the device to the spa for further analysis by off -site sleep specialists. T e relevant specialist would then forward the report to the client for any possi- ble further action. We have identifi ed the devices, built the
processes and are ready to deploy. Aſt er we establish the TeleDermSPA service, we will rollout the sleep product... and we have more valuable services to follow.
What do you hope to achieve in the next 12 months? To have as many therapists as possible indi- cate potential skin lesions – in places you can’t normally see yourself – to clients. Skin can- cer is easy to detect if you’re looking. I hope operators don’t get put off by medical/legal issues, which can be easily solved, for the sake
of saving lives. My other aim is to get a chain of spas using TeleDermSPA so that we can create a benchmark on how to integrate our services. T is is the future and the earlier peo- ple embrace it, the better for all.
How would you describe yourself? As someone who doesn’t accept that the ways things are, are how they should. T e world needs to, and will, change and I hope I can help in some way to make it a better place.
How would your critics describe you? I assume they would think that I’m pig-headed and focused, even to my own detriment.
Do you feel as if your life is on track? As a serial entrepreneur, I always struggle with what I want to do and what I can do. I spend many sleepless nights wondering how I can get more out of a day! I have a happy and healthy family, so life is good right now. ●
