Welcome to the latest edition of the Spa Business Handbook – now in its third year
2010 was a year of better news, with the industry reporting growth and recovery – albeit slow – coming out of recession. At a live poll of top spa professionals, at the Global Spa Summit in May 2010, 51.3 per cent of delegates said their business had expanded since the previous year and a large proportion estimated that profi ts would either be ‘up signifi cantly’ or ‘up somewhat’. We’ve highlighted some other key statistics – focusing on how the industry is performing – on p30, p34 and p38 as well as leading industry players in our Movers & Shakers section starting on p44.
There have been some strong trends emerging too – the focus on wellness: a more holistic approach to preventing, rather than curing, illness (see p78); and the importance of scientifi c proof in backing up the health-giving claims of treatments, services and products (p82). We’ve predicted other top industry trends that will come to fruition in the next 12 months on p24.
On top of this, we’ve expanded and updated our supplier and training organisation listings (p162 and p208), along with our useful category selectors, to make this the biggest handbook to date.
We hope you continue to fi nd this resource a valuable and essential one for the worldwide spa industry. If you’d like to be included in next year’s edition, or have any feedback, please get in touch by emailing us at
