We preview The Pool & Spa show within LIW at the NEC in September which is set against a critical period for larger pool owners and managers
T
here’s probably never been a time when commercial pool owners need more help than this year.
The Pool & Spa show within LIW
at the NEC in September is set against a critical period for larger pool owners and managers in both the private and public sector. Commercial pools are now
having to operate in a new and tougher climate of cost control and public sector savings and they all are looking for better maintenance systems at their swimming pools, more efficient systems, more knowledgeable staff and as many ideas as they can to reduce costs. Britain’s swimming pool trade
companies have again targeted commercial pool operators and their
support systems at September’s Leisure Industry Week three day show on 21, 22 and 23 September at the NEC in Birmingham. The LIW event has always been
the focus for commercial pools for the trade and there’s a hope that the show this year will deliver business from larger pool owners who are under pressure to reduce energy costs specifically but also having to deal with the public’s concern about safe water to swim in. The background of local authority
cost savings at swimming pools has raised the profile and importance of LIW. One exhibitor told us: “We are going to LIW for the first time because there’s a real feeling that larger pool operators are finding it tough and will be far more receptive

SPATA TO HOST LIW EDUCATION WORKSHOPS
SPATA will be hosting a series of seminars covering all areas of those topics most important to your business. With sessions from leading figures from within the industry, these seminars are designed to inspire new ideas to take your business forward and help you with the challenges you face within the sector. The Education programme workshops will include: • What SPATA Members can do for You • Asking Questions of the SPATA Technical Panel • SPATA will also be hosting a stand at LIW
than before about good systems and good pool housekeeping.” For the UK commercial pool and
spa market, LIW – Leisure Industry Week – is, in 2010, a critically timed show. Specialist pool companies attend Birmingham believing they will meet more commercial pools personnel and architects than at the pool industry’s own SPATEX event. This year up to 20 specialist companies are expected to exhibit. It is known that energy savings and
water quality are two of the major headaches for private and local authority pool owners and managers. Despite the economic downturn
LIW 2009 attracted 13,102 visitors, a 2% increase in footfall from the 2008 event.
Jonny Sullens, Event Director of
LIW, said: “LIW still plays such an integral role within the leisure sector and visitors value the show as both a great networking and educational opportunity. The team achieved these record figures by focusing on attracting a wide range and high calibre of speakers to present the show seminars and by welcoming new and varied exhibitors, we created an event which offered exceptional interest and value to leisure professionals.” Pool & Spa hosted demonstrations
across the three days in its swimming pool, the Astral SkyPool. Olympian Karen Pickering presented for Zoggs and Duncan Goodhew spoke in SPATA’s Pool Operator Seminars.
