Turkey, new pool markets in Northern African countries (Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria). For older markets, I think the trend is different:
more services, more customer relationship, things changed in a good way to allow for quality and innovation. For the commercial pools the Aqualie show
demonstrates that the growth of interest in health wellness is crucial and the expansion in the number of commercial pools everywhere is really a trend. And finally we are all excited that with
Wellgreen, we notice that the surroundings of pools (furniture, lightings, floor coverings…) is a huge market and full of potential.
Swimming pool trade shows throughout Europe are putting more and more emphasis on health and wellbeing. Will this be one of the themes for Piscine 2010? Yes health and wellbeing is a vital aspect of the message of the show. The Spa Concept Area offers pool, hotel,
holiday centre, sports club, thermal spa and thalassotherapy centre managers the chance to discover the latest trends in the field of aquatic leisure and wellness facilities (spas, hamams, saunas, pool and spa equipment) in life-size settings, together with advice by experts from the major cosmetics brands. The whole theme of the Aqualie congress and
Aqualie meetings with more than 20 speakers dedicated to wellness and health developed in public or private pools.
What do you see as the strongest and growth areas for products within the 2010 show? As far as Piscine is concerned the international aspects of the event is a strong growth area. France in particular and Europe as a whole are important markets and this is where pool industry manufacturers see their business expanding. It is a true European event.
One particular area of growth is the range of
products such as furniture, lighting and all surrounding pool products that makes the swimming pool experience a more and more comfortable one. This has meant the Wellgreen show will be especially vibrant this time round.
What do you see as the biggest reason for European visitors to attend Lyon? Lyon is a great place in Europe for a pool and spa show because it is close to important markets like Spain and Italy. Swimming pools are more of a southern European activity so many companies have expanded faster in the southern part of France, more than the northern part. Lyon is a wonderful destination both for
business and tourism and we have been working hard on a Lyon ‘Welcome Pack’ to offer quality and comfort to international visitors and exhibitors when they arrive at the airport, train stations and stay in hotels.
What will be the key theme for the seminars for 2010 and how important are they in terms of attracting visitors? Les Matinales, the key conferences at Piscine, are held every day from 9 till 10.30am. The focus this year will include pool builders
and especially on a theme throughout Europe which is working with customers at every stage of the swimming pool building process from conceiving the idea right through to the maintenance and support systems for the finished pool. It the same emphasis for spa builders. We are
also highlighting export markets to develop and want to highlight the importance of e commerce. Other themes for us this year are:
• Energy savings: equipment and solutions • Water treatment: how to become a water magician
• Give a second life to your pool • Pool and pool covering: the winning team
“Piscine is the show that best reveals the future; in Europe it is THE barometer!”
What do you think has been the secret of success for Piscine in its 30 years of trading? It is a lot to do with the relationships we have with the business since we started the show and the quality of customer relationships. We’ve also been keen to look at how the
industry is developing – looking for innovation, trends and trying to see how the pool industry will expand in the years ahead such as pool designs and the eco and environmental factor. It is also through keeping in very close contact with professionals and organisations like Swimming Pool News that helps us to be always aware of how things are changing around the world.
What will be the profile of overseas visitors at Lyon in terms of what countries are represented? We have 20 agents who are working worldwide for Piscine so this is a very important area for us. We will again be welcoming visitors from
Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, South Africa, Argentina, Brazil, USA and Canada and the Far East. Other really important markets for us are Italy,
Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Great Britain (around 200 visitors), Belgium, Greece, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Czech Republic, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Austria, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Arabian Emirates. It is a very international event. spn
