Technical advice This advice can be invaluable and can often be initially provided free of charge to members, although there may be a requirement to pay for site visits. This advice can sometimes prevent a dispute escalating into legal action by either party. BISHTA Members are also encouraged to
purchase copies of relevant publications such as the Management of Spa Pools (HSE and HPA) and also Legionnaires’ disease: The controlling of legionella bacteria in water systems (this publication is also referred to as L8), along with PWTAG’s Swimming Pool Water Treatment and Quality Standards publication. A series of factsheets are to be provided
from the Technical Committee over the next year, to benefit both the member and the consumer. Any feedback from members on what advice would be helpful for them to receive will be very welcome.
Road Shows These important events bring members together to discuss and debate the latest issues affecting our industry and are also a chance to learn about other potential valuable services to make our companies even more effective.
Representing industry views It is important that BISHTA and other relevant bodies such as the British Swimming Pool Federation (BSPF) works on behalf of the industry to have our voice heard with key decision makers. A number of issues have been addressed by BISHTA, including working with Trading Standards to highlight potentially unethical business practices of some non BISHTA members.
credit Finance The recent economic crisis had an adverse effect on the ability of consumers to get credit to make the purchase of the products that our industry can provide them with. As the recovery continues, consumers are likely to regain their confidence about paying for items such as hot tubs and swim spas and that is where companies such as Hitachi Capital Consumer Finance can play an important role in assisting our industry to offer consumer credit to complete the sale. BISHTA will continue to adapt and evolve to
meet the needs of its members and any new ideas for membership benefits are always welcome.
Next issue In the September/October issue of Swimming Pool News, there will be a focus on SPATEX in the build up to the important 2011 exhibition next February.

BISHTA members work on World Cup theme
BISHTA members have been busy making the most of the World Cup to help promote their hot tub businesses. Craig Trusson of Home Counties (Horsham) Pools – Hot Tubs planned the promotion to run throughout the tournament. A replica of the Jules Rimet Trophy, a signed England shirt and flags of the competing nations were on display and they play a key part of the promotion for a customer to win their money back in a prize draw.
