TILING AND POOL PROJECTS SOLVE WEST COUNTRY SWIM ACADEMY POOL PROBLEMS

When the Burnham on Sea Swimming Academy in Somerset bought a community pool from the local authority they didn’t foresee the problems they would have. The pool badly needed refurbishing. Tiling and Pool Projects (UK) Ltd based in

Aquaflex on-site lining offers perfect attention to detail and superb finish for any pool

stones) to give a ground bearing of 100kPa. This is essential for the stability of the pool for it to be able to take the combined weight of the pool floor and the water. It is possible to utilise the existing shape of the old pool to reconstruct the new pool, but you essentially have to build a pool within a pool so you would lose about 450mm of the pool size overall. Once the foundations have set, the pool is lined with steel reinforcement and the top pool surround is removed. Heritage then rebuild a new pool floor, re-tile the sides, add a new surround and the newly refurbished pool is ready to be filled with water. “When we refurbish pools we always check

that there are no structural faults or leaks. If there are no problems, and the pool simply has cracked or is missing tiles or is in need of updating, then we can re-tile and add in new features as the client desires,” comments Andrews. There is plenty of choice to create the desired

finish. “Re-tiling a pool and adding a new surround can give it a new lease of life. No-body wants to swim in a pool that has seen better days and for commercial businesses a pool that has cracked or broken tiles can be a safety hazard and may result in it being closed for public use,” said Andrews. “We recommend that our pools are renovated

every 30 – 40 years to check the structure is sound and to prevent any major damage from occurring. We also recommend that plant room equipment is checked every 10 – 15 years to make sure that is it still functioning correctly,” comments Andrews. spn

Burnham on Sea Swimming Academy made the tough decision to have the whole of their newly purchased pool completely retiled

Cheshire were approached by the academy as the state of the pool was a real problem with tiles that were constantly coming loose. The client had repaired a large area of tiles on the base of the pool using a polyethylene sheet as a temporary solution. After meeting on site and discussing the

options available, Tiling and Pool then provided references so that the client could be sure they were dealing with a professional company and soon after that the decision was made by the client that the existing pool tiles would be removed, any cracks repaired and the pool would be fully re-tiled using the correct swimming pool tiles and grouted in a full epoxy material. The client had made a very difficult

decision to re-tile fully and therefore due to the significant cost that would be lost during the shutdown, the time scale of the contract had to be kept to a minimum. The contract was carried out before, during and after the Christmas period. During the period of removing the tiles a

number of hollow and weak areas were found on the walls and in the existing screed which had to be dug out back to the concrete shell, then repaired using a special rapid setting screed material. The client also made the decision to remove and replace all the existing pool edge tiles. The works were finished within the

allowed time and upon completion the client was pleased with the finished result and without hesitation offered to be used as a future reference. Tony Crank, Managing Director of Tiling

and Pool Projects (UK) Ltd said; “The contract had a few problems during the works, but this can be expected when dealing with

swimming pool

refurbishments and whatever occurred on site was dealt with very quickly. The client and his staff were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble during the contract with regards to quick decisions or an extra pair of hands when needed. This was a very difficult and expensive decision made by the client to fully refurbish the pool, but was well worth it, and thanks to them and their commitment the community still has a very good operational swimming facility.” The company is a member of the Tile

Association, CITB, Constructionline and is a CHAS accredited contractor. All their employees hold CSCS cards and have been CRB checked. Tiling and Pool Projects (UK) Ltd

specialise in the tiling of new swimming pools and the refurbishment of existing pools. They also carry out refurbishment and new marblite rendering of swimming pools, using Pacelite materials. The company works all over the UK and

carrys out projects that include rendering, full re-tiles, repairs, re-grouting to areas using cement based and epoxy materials, expansion joints and sika products. Added Tony: “The thing that makes us

different is that clients who have used us, always come back, because although we are a small team, we always turn up on time, work very hard, work weekends and nights, always use well established quality products and finish a job to a very high standard.”
