Euro pAvIlIon At DubAI Show The Middle East Pool and Spa show to be held in Dubai from 26 to 28 September, is to have a European Pavilion to gather the best of the hot tub industry throughout the European Union. The pavilion is being organised by Nextrade. The event is being held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
InflAtAblE poolS thrEAt The dangers from larger inflatable pools have again been raised. The statement that because inflatable pools have become larger, owners do not empty them every night is being seen as increasing the risk. The Swimming Teachers’
Association has confirmed that safety standards for the larger inflatable pools should follow the same stringent rules as other above-ground pools. When purchasing inflatable pools, you can get filters, heaters and covers which all encourage owners to leave the pool full of water but the subject of chlorination is seemingly not emphasised. Adds the STA: “This is a
hidden and serious hazard that has to be taken into account. These types of pools are an excellent breeding ground for a range of bacterial infection if they are not treated correctly, for example children walking across soil/grass can easily transfer a variety of pathogens into the pool, and with their heat and nutrients (body fats, lotions etc) they will multiply significantly. Basic tests and control of free chlorine and pH are essential for the pool to be safe and hygienic”.

It took me no time to realise that a panel pool was the sensible option and so it proved, with excavation and erection of the panels taking just one week from start to finish,” says Mark. “In fact, the actual panels themselves took just four hours to erect, thanks to the ingenious interlocking wall panel system. “The Heatwave’s heat saving properties proved a real bonus and
an excellent selling point as everyone is interested in making energy saving cuts,” adds Mark. Two models are available, a standard and a deluxe. The latter offers the ultimate in heat retention and the highest U values of any pool on the market. The patented thermal insulated panels are designed to trap heat in the pool and keep the surrounding cold out. POOL COMPANIES WARNED OF DANGER OF ENTRAPMENT
Human entrapment on suction outlets in swimming pools remains a threat despite the 1999 SPATA recommendations that two main drains be installed to lessen entrapment risks. An estimated 200,000 pools were already built
with a single main drain prior to the introduction of this Standard, and, in the majority of cases, will still be operating with a singular bottom drain.

An experienced engineer would be able to install a Vac-Alert™ in less than two hours at a cost to the end user of between £800 to £1,200. This is a ludicrously small sum to pay for the long term safeguarding of bathers.”
