WEEKLY BUSINESS
MAGAZINE OF THE YEAR
Property Week
UBM
In 2008, Property Week defied the credit crunch by diversifying itself
into the ultimate, multi-platform business magazine. Half the brand’s
revenue came from online, global, conferences, awards and exhibitions,
rising by 25% on 2006. 2008 was marked in particular by a series of
innovations, including Offices 08, a new conference and exhibition
for 600 readers, and the transformation of Property Week Global
from a supplement into a vibrant monthly magazine. In addition, the
magazine pitched for and won its biggest ever commercial deal against
its main rival, teaming up with the Bank of Scotland in a £30 million
Search for Property Entrepreneurs. This year-long, Dragons’ Den-style
competition awarded three companies £10 million interest-free in the
depths of the banking crisis.
Editorially, Property Week forced a government u-turn in November’s
Pre-Budget Report and won tenants and landlords relief from increased
business rates on empty property. 2008 also saw the relaunch of
Propertyweek.com, with podcasts, video and mobile access, webinars
and a new business-to-consumer section driving unique users up
from 30,000 to 140,000 - seven times more than the magazine’s main
competitor. The judges said: “A fantastic example of a magazine’s
ability to transcend the printed page and diversify its income streams.
Innovative and impressive.”
