INTERACTIVE CONSUMER
MAGAZINE OF THE YEAR
nme.com
IPC.Media
NME.com is a shining example of a digital platform that has not just
survived, but thrived through a bitter economic climate. In 2008, the
site achieved meteoric growth, with page impressions soaring 27%
year-on-year and monthly unique users increasing by a staggering
108% in the same period. A team restructure placed
NME.com at
the cutting-edge of multi-platform journalism: magazine writers
developed multimedia skills and tools to produce video, audio and
blogs, and to closely monitor site traffic. The site was transformed with
a performance-boosting redesign and a raft of new sections, including
a new YouTube/NMETV channel, which generated 4 million video
views in one year and an NME presence on Twitter, which generated
thousands of referrals every week. New revenue streams were
developed including pre-roll video advertising and an online store. As a
result, the growing audience returned more frequently and for longer.
NME.com is now an industry-leading business in its own right, with
seven-figure revenues up 149% year-on-year, profits up 269% year-on-
year and a fantastically bright future. The judges said: “NME.com is a
site which has consistently dominated in its sector, with fantastic cross-
media integration, first-class content and excellent commercial results.”
