Te Annual Modern Casting Census of World Casting

Production is one of our favorite projects each year. Pub- lished in December, this feature provides a snapshot of the state of metalcasting globally. It is a one-of-a-kind feature that is much-relied upon throughout the industry. Te data reported in the 48th Census of World Casting Production is supplied by each nation’s metalcasting association or similar representatives. According to our results, in 2013, global production in-

creased to more than 103 million metric tons, an increase of 3.4% when compared to the previous year. Te 103.2 million metric tons of metal castings produced in 2013 represents an increase of 3.43 million tons. Tis rate of growth is a slight bump up from 2012’s 2.4% boost. Global casting production grew in 2013, but other than

the large gains in China, total tonnage increased by less than a half-million metric tons. After an impressive 15.1% boost in total production in 2012, the U.S. market grew at a more modest pace. While the global economy continues to steady itself in the years after the recession, economic volatility meant big losses and gains for certain countries. For more of the report, go to page 38. ■
