significantly to the firm’s overall growth and development and now employs eight people, working with a range of clients across the north-east region. Some of the relationships have been longstanding for a decade. But what will the next ten years bring

for Malcolm Hollis and the property industry? All the team studied at Northumbria University and that is where David Cox, partner of Malcolm Hollis in Newcastle, studied surveying and property law too. Cox would like to continue to grow the team in this way, giving opportunities to graduates to develop their careers with Malcolm Hollis, as he has done.

innovation and this is encouraged across all levels in the firm. Whether this is a small process change or a technological transformation, all ideas are considered. I predict that developments in technology such as laser scanning, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and even virtual reality, will allow us to deliver reports to clients in different ways.

We will be using technology that someone hasn’t even dreamed of let alone designed and that is very exciting.” The Newcastle construction market is

t’s been 10 years since the UK’s largest independent commercial building

and electrical engineering teams of Malcolm Hollis. Over the past decade, Malcolm Hollis

has surveyed a range of landmark buildings including Eldon Square, Lingfield Point, Partnership House, Cale Cross House, as well as various listed properties on the iconic Grey Street. “There is a steady level of investment in

the city’s property market across all sectors. However, we have seen a lot of investment

most recently in existing buildings, as landlords spend money to attract incoming tenants. We have been involved in various office and industrial refurbishments and it is great to see a building be occupied again after having been vacant for years. We regularly use local contractors and consultants and it is great to see local businesses benefitting from this investment,” says Cox. Each year, Malcolm Hollis promotes

several people across its 16 UK and four European offices. Philip Hirst and Paul Wharton are senior members of the Newcastle team and have key roles in managing clients instructions, training our graduates and developing business. Hirst is a committee member of RICS

Teesside Local Association and RICS NE Matrics and was shortlisted for Young Surveyor of the Year in the Building Surveying Category at the 2016 RICS Matrics Young Surveyor of the Year Awards. He has also worked with key clients such as Hansteen, Northern Trust and Adderstone since he joined in 2008.

• Settling a dilapidations case - 100% for the landlord

• Defending a £2 million dilapidations claim

Cox said: “I am immensely proud of the

team and what we have achieved over the past 10 years. I’d like to thank our clients for their constant support and we look forward to continuing to work with them on key projects in Newcastle and further afield in the north east for years to come. We look forward to celebrating with clients at our 10-year anniversary party later in the year.” Contact Malcolm Hollis by telephone
