BALFOUR BEATTY AGREES LEASE TO OCCUPY 43,600 sq.ft IN MAXIM 7 M


axim Office Park has announced it has secured leading international


infrastructure group Balfour Beatty as a major new tenant, representing the largest office letting to take place at a business park in West Scotland in the last year. Balfour Beatty, Europe’s largest


construction company, is taking approximately 43,600 sq.ft across three levels in the ‘Maxim 7’ building on a ten year lease. Fit-out works have recently completed and staff are currently taking occupation. A Balfour Beatty spokesperson said: “As


part of its Build to Last transformation programme, Balfour Beatty is consolidating seven of its existing offices in Scotland in to one modern, state-of-the-art office located within Maxim Office Park at Eurocentral between Edinburgh and Glasgow. “This move will greatly enhance the


collaborative offering across the Scottish markets by bringing together a number of business units and enabling functions in to one location and will also significantly reduce the cost of our Scottish office footprint.” Balfour Beatty’s new home in Maxim 7

Any increase in fees paid by the private sector needs to result directly in an injection of additional resources for planning services, delivering stronger leadership that supports appropriate development and encourages new investment in our built environment. Unfortunately, we have yet to see full commitment by planning authorities to tie fees to better outcomes in the way that’s needed. Moreover, while infrastructure delivery is a key challenge under the current system, its reform will be a key test of success for the proposals in the consultation paper.”

hen long-serving DM Hall stalwart Lorraine Pearson first walked


through the firm's doors to begin her career 45 years ago, the world was a very different place. The average price of a house in Scotland, for example, was just £7,361, up from £5,592 the year before. As she settled in to meet her new


colleagues at the then office in Melville Crescent, she may well have listened to them discuss the football the following day, when Rangers took the European Cup Winners Cup by beating Moscow Dynamo at Camp Nou amid riotous scenes. And it's perfectly possible that she


may, like so many others that spring month, have been humming Amazing Grace, the surprise UK chart hit from the Pipes and Drums of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. She said: "So much has changed over


the years in the profession. We have evolved from pen and paper practices - which were not so different from when the firm was founded 120 years ago - to a connected world of the internet and instant communication." Lorraine, who has spent the whole of


her career in cash handling and has seen accountants come and go, is l–ooking forward to the 120th birthday celebrations.
