INNOVATION IN CHARNWOOD
E
nterprise Zone status has recently been confirmed for two sites in Loughborough and one of them has also been designated by
the Government as the UK’s first Life Sciences Opportunity Zone. This will attract more companies to establish themselves amongst the already strong base of innovative companies in the town. The Charnwood area has a long history of companies involved in
advanced manufacturing, engineering, new technologies and science based industries. It continues to be an extremely desirable location with direct access to the M1 and a mainline railway – and in the centre of the UK. Many businesses forge links with Loughborough University which provides high calibre graduates, knowledge transfer, research and support in to the business community. Demand is expected to be strong for commercial space at the
Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park and, elsewhere in the town, at the Charnwood Campus site. Both of these Enterprise Zone sites have recently announced new occupiers, including those of international standing such as 3M Healthcare. A new marketing brand “inCharnwood” has been developed by
the Charnwood Borough Council and its partners in order to continue to attract further interest in the excellent commercial property development and occupation opportunities which exist currently and will continue to do so in future years. With the three major cities of Leicester, Nottingham and Derby all within close proximity to Charnwood, it is a location where businesses are at the centre of innovation in the East Midlands.
