BARNSLEY TOPS UK AWARDS B

arnsley’s exciting and ambitious Better Barnsley town centre regeneration project has won IBI Group joint first place in the prestigious Urban Design Group, Practice Award; a top national accolade for architecture, landscape and planning practices involved in urban design. IBI Group’s Marcus Wilshere and Seamus Lennon submitted the Barnsley scheme as a good example of urban design based on a clear delivery process and sound recommendations for future projects. Their submission described the IBI Group’s approach to creating a highly successful town centre prospectus that clearly demonstrated to Barnsley Council and local stakeholders how real improvements could be achieved without losing potential investors. A short film was also produced to showcase how the project is developing and featured members of the project team explaining how the Better Barnsley project is progressing.

has recently been instructed to find occupiers for Units 1A/1B/1C/1D alongside Junction 6 of the M18. The premises form part of a terraced building and offer individual floor plates of 3,574 sq.ft approx. with 7 m eaves height and built in flexibility to cater for most business roll outs. Asking rents are in the order £22,000 per annum, per unit. Terms have recently been agreed for the letting of Unit 1A with the remaining space attracting useful enquiry levels.

The Doncaster office market suffered disproportionately in the 2008 recession with several new projects under construction when the economic down- turn came into focus. Recovery is now largely complete with low void levels on both the Hayfield Business Park and Ebor Court to the fringe of the town centre with recent rents in the order of £10 to £11 per sq.ft geared to lease terms. Doncaster’s importance on the rail network and in particular, the main East Coast line is well known and the proposed refurbishment of the landmark station will further lift the profile of what is a regionally important transport hub.

heffield based contractor and developer, JF Finnegan, has been awarded a £3M design and build contract by Harworth Estates Limited to create the 75,000 sq.ft industrial Unit 5 at Gateway 36 in Barnsley, which is being speculatively developed to address the regional shortage of quality industrial accommodation.

The 75,000 sq.ft Unit 5 will be

developed as part of the first phase of Harworth’s Gateway 36 development which comprises 127 acres in three phases with direct frontage to the A6195 Dearne Valley Parkway, just off the M1 south of Barnsley in the heart of the Sheffield City Region. This follows Harworth practically completing the first three units on the development. JF Finnegan will begin the

construction of the unit in March to Harworth’s ‘R-evolution’ specification with a scheduled completion date of September 2016. Gary Smith, Managing Director at JF Finnegan, said; “We are delighted to have been appointed to deliver this significant new building. The shortage of high quality industrial space is well documented and this speculative unit will hit the market at an opportune time.”
