50 JOBS TO BE CREATED AS WORK GETS UNDER WAY ON £4M COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT
nternational parcel delivery company DPD and East Yorkshire property developer Horncastle Group PLC have broken ground on a commercial development that will create up to 50 additional jobs. Construction work has got underway at DPD’s new 47,145sq.ft parcel distribution depot at Ozone Business Park in Howden following a period of unprecedented growth in the UK for DPD, thanks largely to the success of its unique Predict service. hour delivery slot in advance, so that they don’t have to wait in all day for a parcel. The £4m development sits on a 4.5 acre site and includes a distribution warehouse, 6,716sq.ft of offices space, 59 van and HGV trailer parking spaces and 60 car parking spaces.
Once fully operational the facility will be able process up to 20,000 packages a day for delivery to residential and business addresses within a 50 mile radius. As part of the investment, DPD will relocate staff from its existing operation in nearby Goole to the new site, from September. Currently, the business employs around 50 staff but Louise Ferguson, General Manager of Property at DPD, said

The 30-acre operation handles more than 9,000 containers per month and discharges vessels from Rotterdam, Tilbury and Grangemouth. The £15 million investment includes two new Liebherr gantry cranes, as well as a fleet of 21 reach stackers, tractors and trailers, ABP Director Humber, Simon Bird said: “The opportunity arose for ABP to run the terminal when our agreement with PD Ports came to an end. We already run a very successful container operation in Immingham, so it made sense for us to look to operate the Hull terminal too. “The transition has been a smooth one and many of the terminal’s existing employees are now part of the ABP workforce. We’re looking forward to running a successful operation and exploring new business opportunities in order to maximise the value of ABP’s latest terminal investment.”

within ABP’s operations on the Humber will allow the company to develop a robust property strategy and raise the profile of the Humber Enterprise Zone, according to ABP Director Humber, Simon Bird.

together with over 1000 acres of consented employment land, which totalled more than 1000 acres. Prior to his tenure at Harworth Estates Campbell was Director of the Property Division at Clugston Estates Limited.
His remit at ABP will include bringing
together the north and south bank property teams and working closely with the commercial function to develop a property ‘Masterplan’ for the four Humber ports. This will raise the profile
of the company’s assets and Campbell will work to strengthen links between ABP and the development of national infrastructure such as HS2/HS3, as well as the emerging Northern Powerhouse. Campbell said: “I have experience in
commercial land and property as well as change management, and as ABP continues to grow and develop its business, I’m hoping I can help manage that transition. “There are some challenges for ABP at the moment, but there are some real opportunities too. Renewables is a growth industry which we’re currently at the forefront of in this region, and we’ll be working to service that market, together with further emerging markets, and look towards a fantastic future.” ABP Director Humber, Simon Bird is

Ms Ferguson said: “Our new Howden depot will be a state-of-the-art, purpose- built distribution facility that will allow us to expand our existing operation to meet our growing business needs and create a significant number of new jobs.” Ozone Business Park is a 32 acre site based on the A614 and is part of the Goole/Howden employment hub. It is one minute from junction 37 of the
