ENERGY SAVING EQUIPMENT  C

entrifugal fan technology is an integral component in many pieces of acr equipment that provide cool air in commercial and residential premises. Typically an OEM addition to air conditioning units, centrifugal fans ensure that the conditioned air is eff ectively and effi ciently chilled and distributed around the occupied space. These fans draw air into the unit, pulling it through a fi lter and cooling the air as it passes through the cold coils in the unit. The fans then re-supply and distribute the now chilled and conditioned air around the ventilated space. In recent years, many units have been upgraded to meet the increasingly stringent ErP energy requirements so they comply with the current and forthcoming Eco Directive.

Replacing existing AC or DC fans with a compatible EC centrifugal fan enables you to reduce sound levels and improve the performance and energy effi ciency of your air conditioning system, without having to replace the entire system. As the fans are electrically commutated,

rctic Circle and Formpave have been working together to develop a way of storing waste heat under car parks.

Reclaiming heat from

refrigeration is nothing new, but there are two main draw backs to conventional heat reclaim. ■ In order to get the quantity and grade of heat required, it is often necessary to operate refrigeration systems less effi ciently than their normal operation without heat reclaim.

■ The demand for the heat is usually at its highest when the heat available from refrigeration system is at its least (and vice versa).

The Arctic Circle integrated GSHP refrigeration system with the Formpave Aquafl ow system addresses both issues. By storing the heat under the car park via a ground loop, the two main drawbacks are turned into two major benefi ts.

air fl ow control is better and they are quicker to respond to changes in occupant demand than AC and DC motors.

EC centrifugal fans, like the ones those found

in Airfl ow’s single inlet, double inlet and duplex blower ranges can reduce the energy consumption of your older air conditioning unit by up to 70%, helping you to meet energy regulations and reducing the building’s energy bills. Integrating replacement EC fans into air conditioning systems allow you to design more compact and discrete air conditioning systems without compromising on the unit’s performance, whilst improving the indoor environment.

ooltherm has added ‘Circlemiser’ to its growing product portfolio. Geoclima’s new Circlemiser chiller is one of the most efficient and innovative chillers available today, offering outstanding efficiency levels, with an increase in EER of up to 15% over the already class leading Turbomiser chiller. The unique technology is in the design and development of special cylinder condensers and the installation of cascade flooded evaporators. The innovative Circlemiser product range uses microchannel condensers with the heat exchange surface increased by 45% compared to traditional condensers.

Geoclima’s unique design of Circlemiser makes it possible to increase the heat exchange capacity, reducing condensing temperature and giving outstanding performance without altering the footprint of the chillers.

Comparing the Circlemiser with traditional air cooled Turbomiser chillers, at the same AHRI/ EUROVENT conditions and size (with the same number of compressors, model of compressors and capacity), Circlemiser records an increase in EER up to +9.5% (with one compressor unit) and up to +15% (with multi-compressor units), with the highest achievable value of EER 4.7 The new Circlemiser series is available for air cooled Turbomiser units, both with R134a, and with HFO-1234ze refrigerants.

■ The Aquafl ow system enhances the overall effi ciency of the refrigeration system.

■ The heat is available when it is required, and it qualifi es for non-domestic RHI payments at 9.09 pence per kW.

According to Nick Franzen of Arctic Circle and Marc Asker of Formpave, the carbon reductions, energy savings and the lifetime benefi ts of the system far outweigh the relative uplift in capital cost.
