with larger capacities from 5kW to 7kW. The manufacturer has also considered how to make ceiling-mounted units as simple as possible to install, by adopting a compact size of 600mm by 600mm – the size of a standard ceiling tile – so that no cutting is required to mount a new unit into a suspended ceiling.
Hitachi has used the opportunity to introduce some new features which will appeal to end- users. These include an eco-sensor as standard that will detect when a room is empty and automatically shift the set temperature to save energy. It has also developed a Wifi app so that the room temperature can be controlled remotely. Lastly, while all units will come with an infra- red controller, wired controllers can be provided that will link directly into the indoor unit without the need for an adaptor board.
Visitors to The HVAC & Refrigeration Show will be able to talk to the Hawco team about the new Hitachi range on stand C10.
Easy to install and service
As R32 becomes more familiar, contractors will start to notice that there are a number of additional benefits to be had from using the refrigerant.
According to Hawco’s senior technical engineer, Mervin Chumun, R32 will make life a little bit easier for engineers. He says: “In most respects, the thermal properties and pressures of the two gases are almost identical and no additional training should be required to install R32. Any engineer old enough to remember the move from R22 to R407c to R410a should be reassured that this transition will be much more straightforward.
“The fact that R32 is a single component gas does offer certain advantages over R410a and other blends. For example, a typical R32 charge size is over 25% smaller than an equivalent
charge of R410a. This means that a 7kW ducted unit will only need its pre-charge to be 1.6 kilos of R32, enough for a pipe-run up to 30 metres. No additional charge will be required.” Mr Chumun continues: “Another benefit will be the speed at which R32 can be recovered. A single component gas will boil off at a single temperature, making it faster to recover and saving the engineer time.
“We estimate that if you used the latest A2L approved recovery unit, like the Javac Altima, you could reduce the time taken to recover the refrigerant in a 7kW system from over 35 minutes down to 15 minutes.”
