Terms & Definitions • 158 immunoaffinity chromatography
Type of liquid chromatography in which the stationary phase consists of an antibody or antibody-related agent. The method can be used in assays for a particular target or for purification and concentration of analytes prior to further examination by another technique.
• 159 immunoassay
Technique that uses the specific recognition and binding of antibodies to an analyte (protein or other molecule) in order to detect or quantify the analyte.
• 160 immunocapture Direct capture of a molecule by an antibody immobilized onto a surface.
• 161 immunogen
A molecule (e.g., protein, small molecule-carrier protein conjugate) that will elicit antibodies in animals and, sometimes, humans upon repeated treatments.
• 162 immunogenicity
The ability of a molecule, usually with reference to a therapeutic (e.g., protein, nucleic acid, carbohydrate, lipid or small molecule) to provoke an immune response in the body of a human or animal.
• 163 immunogenicity assay
Method to detect an immune response to an administered therapeutic (usually a protein) in biological fluids (usually serum or plasma).
• 164 imprecision
Equivalent meaning to precision, pertaining to the degree of proximity or agreement of measurements within a replicate set, without reference to any given nominal or true value. Usually assessed using at least six replicate measurements.
