• 106 dosing vehicle Substance used to facilitate the absorption or administration of the drug.


• 107 dried blood spot (DBS) sampling


A matrix sampling methodology based on applying whole blood (e.g., obtained from venous draws or a heel-, tail- or finger-prick) onto a (paper) substrate which is subsequently dried and sealed in bags with desiccant for possible storage and shipping prior to extraction and analysis.

• 109 drug–drug interaction


The effect of other drugs on the pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD) of the coadministered drug. This often results from competitive binding at one enzyme, transporter, or receptor.


• 110 dry-down


The evaporation of solvents, typically organic, during the sample preparation process.


• 111 electrochemiluminescence


An analytical methodology based on the detection of light generated during electrochemical (redox) reactions of compounds in solution or attached to an electrode surface.


• 112 electrospray ionization (ESI)


A soft ionization technique useful for dealing with nonvolatile or thermally labile molecules. Instead of fragmenting the molecule into many smaller charged particles making subsequent interpretation difficult, it ionizes the molecule through the generation of small droplets, which are then analyzed in the gas phase by mass spectrometry.
