woodland behind. The use of HDD in this area would ensure that there is minimum disruption with the main impact relating to the use of the HDD equipment and location of construction compounds at either side, with the equipment appearing larger in scale than most farm machinery.


29.7.6.2 Significance of the impact 92.


The impact of the onshore cable route construction on the landscape character of the Estate Sandlands, Rolling Estate Sandlands and Coastal Levels would be not significant. The wider extents of the LCTs which lie in this section would undergo not significant impacts.


29.7.7 Scenario 2: - Impacts of Onshore Cable Route Construction on Landscape Character on Section 5

Section 5 extends from the crossing at Martlesham Creek to the A12 crossing south- west of Woodbridge, and crosses the LCTs of Valley Meadowlands and Rolling Valley Farmlands and Furze. The baseline assessment identified a medium sensitivity for the Valley Meadowlands and Rolling Valley Farmlands and Furze. These ratings take into account the inclusion of these LCTs in the AONB.


29.7.7.1 Magnitude of change 94.


The impact of the onshore cable route construction on the character of the landscapes to the south of Woodbridge would be moderated by the existing influence of the urban context. The southern side of the settlement abuts the northern edge of the Rolling Valley Farmlands and Furze, with the railway crossing and associated embankments through the area to the south of this and the A12 and associated embankments marking the western edge. Urban land-uses have encroached into this landscape such that the landscape character appears fragmented and poorly defined.

Embedded mitigation includes the use of HDD to pass the onshore cable route under Martlesham Creek and the A12, such that only a short section of open cut trenching would occur in between. There would be some loss of hedgerows and trees over a 35m working width where the onshore cable route crosses select boundaries, although these losses would be seen in this semi-urban context, where the quality of the landscape is relatively poor quality. The HDD equipment and associated Construction Consolidation Site would form a more notable influence, albeit only over the short duration of the construction process, and again, set within an already partly developed landscape.
