The construction of the onshore cable route would give due consideration to the following standards, recommendations and guidelines:

29.7.1 Scenario 2: Impacts of Onshore Cable Route Construction on Physical Elements 54.


There are a number of different landscape elements which have the potential to be affected by the construction of the onshore cable route. These are assessed individually below.


29.7.1.1 Agricultural Land 55.


The majority of the onshore cable route is routed across agricultural land. The sensitivity of much of the agricultural land is low on account of its cultivation for crops. This means the land is constantly being disturbed as crops are harvested annually or bi-annually, making ploughed fields a common feature and the re- instatement of crops an integral part of the existing character. The low sensitivity rating also applies to improved grassland which has no special value areas and which can also be easily reinstated.

The magnitude of change on the agricultural land would be low as the trenching process, construction of jointing pits and the associated activity of machinery would occur in areas which have already been modified by agricultural practices. The Construction Consolidation Sites and associated access routes would cause wider scale disturbance to the agricultural land and this would give rise to a medium to low magnitude of change. The re-instatement of the soil and crops, in all cases, would be relatively easy and agricultural practices would continue as they previously did. The impact of the onshore cable route construction on the agricultural land would be not significant.


29.7.1.2 Marshy Grassland and Swamp / Calciferous Grassland 57.


Short sections of the onshore cable route would cross areas of marshy grassland, swamp and calciferous grassland. These areas have a medium sensitivity owing to
