29.7.9.2 Significance of the impact 106. The impact of the onshore cable route construction on the LCTs of the Rolling Valley Farmlands and Furze and Ancient Rolling Farmlands, which occur in this section would be significant in the localised parts of the study area around the Fynn Valley to the north of Tuddenham St. Martin, where hedgerow removal would occur. In respect of the re-instatement of hedgerows, this would take 3-5 years for them to sufficiently infill the gaps. While in other sections the longer term impacts relating to the re-establishment of planting were found to be not significant, the greater density of planting in the Fynn Valley means that the loss of trees and hedgerows would be significant for the first 3-5 years until the hedgerows become established. The impact on the section to the west of the Fynn Valley would be not significant, owing to the larger fields and fewer and less well conditioned hedgerows.
29.7.10 Scenario 2: - Impacts of Onshore Cable Route Construction on Landscape Character on Section 8
107. Section 8 extends from Witnesham Road, north of Westerfield, to the A14 and crosses the LCTs of Ancient Rolling Farmlands and Rolling Estate Farmlands. The baseline assessment of the Ancient Rolling Farmlands and Rolling Estate Farmlands identified an overall medium sensitivity.
29.7.10.1 Magnitude of change 108. Open-cut trenching would be used in this section with no HDD construction proposed, apart from under the A14 at the western end of this section. The magnitude of change in this section is influenced by the character of the landscape which generally becomes broader in terms of the scale of the undulations and more exposed as a result of larger fields and less enclosure. A double pylon line crosses the onshore cable route, forming a prominent feature of the baseline landscape and detracting from the rural character.
109.
It is in this context that the removal of sections of hedgerows would not have as notable an impact in comparison to more intimate and enclosed landscapes, for example around the Fynn Valley. Many hedgerows have already been removed, and many of those which remain are kept low with gaps in parts. The magnitude of change on the landscape character as a result of the loss of the hedgerows would be medium to low, with the exception of the more intimate and enclosed landscape found around Willow Tree Farm where the impacts would be medium.
110. The routing of the open-cut trench though the fields would give rise to a low magnitude of change. The fields are typically farmed for crop production, which involves the continual disturbance from ploughing and harvesting, therefore the
